Paid Product Reviews ??

YTtalk Mad
I just had a company contact me about reviewing some products for them. This wouldn't be a trade type situation and I would be paid a cash amount for the service of reviewing the products. I didn't expect to be approached so quickly as my channel is only a month old. So, does anybody have any info regarding the rules of doing this when you're also a monetized channel. I don't want to accidentally violate any Google/Youtube partner terms.

How much do you charge?
Is it simply a matter of clicking the Paid Product option in monetization settings?
Is it better to charge more and just turn the monetization off?

All feedback appreciated. Thanks. :)

Excerpts about product placement:

What is the new policy?
Partners are now permitted to include paid product placements into their content. All product placements will need to conform to our ad policies.

Why did we make this decision?
Many of our partners have made paid product placements an important part of their business model, and these sponsorships have become pervasive in the online video industry. This new policy will enable partners who are creating content specifically for advertisers to continue to do so without fear of having their content removed from YouTube.

Will YouTube still run ads against these videos?
In some cases a paid product placement can create a conflict with ads that YouTube otherwise sells and serves to partner videos. For example, if you upload a video with brand mentions and product placements for Car Company A, then it would present a conflict to sell ad space around that video to Car Company B. To protect the value we offer advertisers, in these situations YouTube may disable monetization and promotion on videos with such product placements.

What is the definition of a paid product placement?
Paid product placements are defined as pieces of content that are created specifically for a sponsor and where that sponsor's brand, message, or product is integrated directly into the content. A typical example of a paid product placement is one in which a marketer pays a partner to specifically mention their product or brand in what would normally be the editorial part of the content.

Do I need to notify YouTube if a video has a paid product placement?
Yes, you can notify us through a checkbox we have added in the Advertising Options section under Edit Video Settings.

Does this mean I can burn pre-rolls into my videos?
No. The policy does not allow partners to burn advertiser-created and supplied pre-rolls into their content or other commercial breaks where YouTube offers a comparable ad format. This policy is intended specifically for content creators who create ads on behalf of sponsors. If you have an advertiser interested in serving ads specifically against your content, please work with your partner manager to facilitate the transaction.

Is this open to all users?
No. This is only open to partners. Anyone who loses partnership status will no longer be allowed to post videos with paid product placements.

Well take it as if you are reviewing the product and not advertising. For example apple can tell you to review their iPhone 6 you would show us the product and tell us about the positives and negatives.
And don't mention it on yt that you are getting paid for this review. Getting paid should be under cover.
So I think it is fine to review products.

Off topic but the art on your channels awesome, just took a look around.

Do as Wreckless eating has said. You can use product placement in your videos. Most large YouTubers do. May I ask who has approached you so early? just wondering.

A Mac developer. I just did a review of one of their apps I love called KeyCue and they liked the way I did it. My original plan was to start reviewing apps I already use and then later contact developers for products I wanted to review. They just beat me to the punch. LOL

I was under the impression that paid advertising must be disclosed when presented in an editorial format. Maybe I am mistaken. Since I am not an attorney the legalese is always confusing to me. If you take a look at this document it sounds like maybe letting your viewers know about compensation is advisable..?

Edit: I can't post the link but if you google "disclose compensation endorsement" and go to the FTC website they discuss this and there is a .pdf all about it.
