Overlaying images on top of video

I've Got It
Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to be able to easily overlay images on top of my video. Right now I'm using Windows Movie Maker Live and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this.

I'm basically looking for a (preferably free) movie editor that allows you to easily import an image and overlap it on top of video for a particular duration. Right now I've been cutting to images in Movie Maker but I think it'll look better to overlap the image over the video in a corner of the screen.

Anyone know of a good video editor that has this feature?

Thanks!

The cheapest software I know of which includes overlay "PIP" tracks is Sony Movie Studio which retails at ~$50.

Yeah I'm sorry to say but WMM does not do Picture-in-Picture. You're gonna have to buy a dedicated video editing software. If you have a look at any of my videos, I use multiple PIP elements (called video tracks), especially at my end card where there's at least 5 layers at the same time. I use Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite, which I bought on Amazon for about £25.
Hope that helps answer your question. Unfortunately I can't recommend any free software.

Thanks guys! I'll look into the Sony editing software.[DOUBLEPOST=1381372504,1381371206][/DOUBLEPOST]Weegie that is exactly the effect I am looking for... Great review on the Conjuring BTW! That movie creeped me out![DOUBLEPOST=1381429574][/DOUBLEPOST]Do you guys know if Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 will be sufficient for what I want to do?

Thanks a lot!! And yes it will do everything you need it to, and so much more! I've said it many times in lots of different threads, but you really will not get the benefits of using pro software like Vegas or After Effects unless you are indeed a professional. I do a lot of video editing for projects outside of YouTube, and I promise you Movie Studio Platinum HD is the most robust, best priced and most streamlined package out there for amateurs and enthusiasts. Unless you have a professional accreditation, I guarantee you don't need the extra $400 price tag.

Thanks man! I decided to order 11 instead of 12 since I have a ton to learn and probably won't be taking advantage of half the features anyhow. Only $38 on Amazon.

I also ordered an external microphone for my DSLR! I'm hoping my audio will take a bump up in quality. Now I just need to figure out how to utilize all this stuff in a compelling fashion :).

I now have Sony Vegas 11 installed on my machine... It looks like it'll do exactly what I want.

Followup question I haven't been able to get a good answer for by Googling...

Say I wanted to overlay a video and give it a transparency (not a full opacity but just define certain parts of the video as fully transparent)... How would this be accomplished? Would I need a blue screen or something like that?

Edit: Nevermind I found some stuff!
