Optimizing your mic.

I'm using Samson CO1U. It's a great mic but I'm having problems with background noises. It can detect:

1. Car engine
2. Tv noise outside my room
3. Voice of my grandparents in the sala
4. etc.

This cannot be heard when I'm talking though but once I stopped talking, these things can be heard especially on cutscene. I want to optimize my microphone but I don't know why. I can edit it though on Sony Vegas to minimize the noise but I'd like to do that for emergency only.

Sounds like you have some sort of auto-gain on. Make sure not to use auto-gain when recording footage. It never works out well.

mic volume doesn't really need to be at 100% as you're going to be sitting rather close to it.. I use my yeti at 50% and it really only pics up my voice :) can hardly hear my mechanical keyboard either :)

My voice really depends on the situation here in the house. I could be noisy as hell when I'm the only one here. But most of the time, I have an average voice level. Good for 100%.:/

You'll have to inspect the mic for yourself on that one. As far as input level goes - it really depends on how loud your voice is. You want input as loud as you can go without peaking the mic.

Cheers!

Can you give me an example where I can find it? Samson CO1U has a pattern which is not good for podcasts since it only gets one-sided. Do you get what I mean? xD

I'm afraid I don't own a Samson CO1U. But you do, so you're in an optimal position to experiment with it :) Cheers!
