"Optimizing" your channel art for most screens?

LuiC

I sing and vlog stuff
I've looked at my own channel and a close friend's channel and noticed something. He made his personalized channel art which looks rather kick a** in his laptop (you know, we sit next to each other in college, etc.) The only thing is, on my screen, it's not "right" or "aligned". In his laptop though, it fits perfectly.

To test this, I do this:

And it fits!

My friend's channel:

I also tested this on my iPad, my eReader, mobiles, etc. (no screenshot though), but it seems to fit.

BUT, when making channel art, should I aim to "optimize" the art for most screens?

PS. Ignore the Taylor Swift theme, I'm a big fan of her, okay?

Optimizing for all screens is confusing as hell, because in Photoshop, the canvas has to be huge and you have to place everything pretty much in the middle. There's no damn point for all that empty space.

Yes there is, different portions of the image are used on different viewing platforms. The entire image is used on TV, so it still is not wasted whitespace.

Use the youtube channel art guide.

If you look at the image I attached below, the text and logo appear on all screens, but the rest of the image has no information.

It took me so long to create my channel art because i could not get the dimensions right! But once you get them right it ends up looking so good.. if you havent got photoshop to use i suggest using pixlr on advanaced, it takes a while and a lot of patience but produces a really good result! Hope this helped
