Old videos randomly getting traction, and I have no idea why

I've Got It
Two videos that I made in the spring of 2016 have taken off this month. The first one had 50k hits, most from over a year ago, until this month. Now it’s at 90k. Another video had 15k hits until yesterday. At the moment, it’s up to 20k.

I did nothing to promote these videos, no SEO changes. I’ve only put out two video, totaling 6k hits, since September.

Anyone have an idea why two of my older videos are having random success? What should I infer from it, and how can I capitalize on it?

Wait a day or two.
Then go to analytics and traffic sources and there will be your answer.
I get that. The viewers are coming from browse features. I’m just wondering why, all of a sudden after months of being dormant, 18 months after posting, these vids are having record days. It’s odd... no?

I agree with the Swedish Traveller, enjoy it, it's great :)
I've had one older video getting lots of views from the Philippines at the moment and it's purely down to Youtube recommending it.

I've experience the same thing. I made a review of couple things years ago & didn't think much would come from it but they gradually became my most popular videos. I believe it's because those reviews are of things that don't have a huge & current fanbase so every bit of new content that's made about it becomes popular.

I decided to make another review about the same sort of thing & that's been doing good & will hopefully become evergreen content. So I'd say you should try to make a similar video, not copying the original of course, but something with a similar subject matter.

It happens. I have a video on my channel where I shot off some fireworks in pumpkins. It stayed at around 30 views for about a year, and then Halloween came around and the video suddenly blew up to over 1,000 views. It could be that the videos topic suddenly gained some relevancy or is topical at the moment. Who knows:tongue:
