So many people complain there isn't a good free recording software out there.

Have those people been on the internet lately? If so, they're too blind to see OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). This is NOT your everyday recording software. With OBS, you can capture individual windows, without worry of your desktop being seen.

OBS has the power to give you 720p by default. It is a low-resource, multi-use, amazing recorder. It can even be used for console recording.

Still don't believe me? Well then, too bad!

Just search Open Broadcaster Software, and be amazed.

I wish I was. I'd get paid[DOUBLEPOST=1383669722,1383669611][/DOUBLEPOST]
It's decent with streaming, I use it for recording because its awesome on my good-ish computer
Not decent with streaming, best streaming software out there currently.

Unless you blew a ton of money on the full version of X-Split, then yeah it's the best
Hell it even beats XSplit, considering XSplit is expensive as hell and OBS is updated really quickly, is free and open source..

I've used OBS and FFsplit before. I find neither of them superior to Xsplit except on cost. As screen recorders go, FRAPS is the workhorse.

That said, with the right codecs, I've now switched to DXTory. It takes some work to get it operational, but being able to record with as many as 8 audio input sources is just amazingly great.

OBS Isn't going to beat DxTory, DxTory is currently where it's at. Fraps uses dated codecs and frankly lacks features. OBS is a lot better performance wise than XSplit, more and more big streamers are using it. Also, more than likely that 10 different updates have been out since last time you used it :p
