"Notifications" Traffic Source?

I've been monitoring the performance of my recent videos that have been pushed a bit more onto YT Homepage and I've noticed they're periodically getting dozens of views per hour from these "Notifications". In fact, as you can see, it's a decent percentage of views actually:

I'm 100% sure these "Notifications" views are NOT from those bell icon notifications some subscribers click on to get notified of new uploads. I get just 10-40 views per video from those. This is something else, but I don't know what it is.

Does anybody know?

Not sure. Do you reply to a lot of comments? I think it could be when you reply to a comment, the person to whom you're replying gets a notification of your reply which they then click and come back to the video. I'm not 100% sure though.

I mean, I do reply to almost all of my comments, but there are nowhere near enough comments channel-wide for me to be getting this much "Notifications" traffic.

There's no way 140 total comments (half of them are my replies, so 70-80 comments from other people) on a 6 day old video are generating up to 20 views/hour.

In fact, the sudden spike in "Notifications" traffic coincided with the period where I only got 1 or 2 new comments channel-wide.

Peculiar.

EDIT: And it's mini-spiking again, even though I only got 1 comment on that video since starting this thread

26.3% of 4,2k is 1.1k+ views, that's actually quite a lot of views for a channel of my size.

I've just checked my analytics from the desktop app.

If you click on "Notifications" traffic source, it will drill down to 3 specific sources. Next to each specific source, there is a "?" and if I mouse over it, it gives a short explanation:

NOTIFICATIONS

Other app notifications
Explanation
: Views from personalized notifications, Inbox and digests. Before January 13, 2020, this activity was reported under the category called "App notifications"

Bell notifications
Explanation
: Views from push notifications sent to your subscribers who turned on "All notifications" for your channel and enabled YouTube notifications on their device. Before January 13, 2020, this activity was reported under the category called "App notifications".

Email updates
Explanation
: Views from emails sent to subscribers

Oh snap, you're right!
98.8% (3k+) "Notifications" views came from "Other app notifications". That's a lot of views for me, just a month ago I would be thrilled to get 3k views combined during the first week after upload.

Thanks for figuring this out for me - it feels nice knowing the YT algo is boosting me through all these different traffic sources.
