on top of that, apparently YouTube has had a spike in rejecting appeals and is adjusting the age restriction limits. Was literally all on reddit's /r/youtube front page. Anyone have any thoughts on this? What might this mean for those of us who will literally have to change who we are in our youtube videos? I know there's people out there who swear in every video (markiplier), or make dirty jokes (game grumps), and many, many others. Much ugh...

This isn't actually a new policy at all (there are criticisms from youtubers who post war news stories not being able to monetize going back several years that refer to the same page about "advertiser-friendly" topics), but it seems that YouTube may have extended the scope of what is considered advertiser-unfriendly.

I don't know if this is on purpose or a fluke. Could be either way.

either way, it's all over reddit. I'm not sure how seriously to take all of it. Some people have already left youtube and moved elsewhere, while others' channels that have been up for a very long time have been taken down.

Is there really any good replacement for youtube, though? I mean, YouTube has some big issues (and whether this is on purpose or is a mistake really speaks poorly for YouTube EITHER way), but my understanding is there is just not anything that really compares...

Necessity is the mother of invention. If youtube is going to push people away then another site must rise up!!

Just like how people became upset at the complete lack of privacy Google offers in Gmail and then another, better email rose up to become the new standard?

Sadly, no other company could afford to rise up to over through YouTube because no other company can afford it. YouTube still has yet to turn a profit.

As for Firefly0037's posts, this is certainly nothing new, but YouTube has been slowly becoming more and more strict on those policies in order to push more family friendly content.

I don't like this at all, I've seen people's videos being unmonitised/taken down because they talk about 'controversial subjects like Depression, Sexual Abuse and....acne????? Automated or not, some people on YouTube to keep a roof over their heads and food in their fridges. This is absolutely horrible on YouTube's part.

if they took it that seriously most of the vevo channels would have to go.
and most of YouTube top runners.

So yeah, not going to happen.
