I think they should have kept them the same shape and just changed the color.

i don;t mind them, they are kinda nice. Most people don't like new changes, but they will eventually grow to like them, then google will change them again.

For me it makes it easier to see which videos I've not made public. When you you're looking at a full page of videos with different series in them, it helps a lot.
