New custom URL options? Why? Help?

I had the Google+ where it came up something like "James Doppler (Dopplervision)" or something. I hate having to mess with G+ for my YouTube account. I want it to be youtube.com/dopplervision or /jamesdoppler or something. Why is it choosing my URL for me? Can I disconnect my G+ from my YouTube and just choose it myself?

Threw me off when I saw I was even eligible, as I thought I needed 500 subs or something. Why can't they just leave things like they were? I left YouTube for six months (not voluntarily) and so much changed by the time I got back and made a new channel.

The reason it's doing this is because I wanted my channel name as "Dopplervision", but it made me enter my first and last name so I entered that as a nickname so it came out "James Doppler (Dopplervision)".

I found a fix for that today, I put Dopplervision as the first name and just a period as the last. It worked, but the damage is done. Will they perhaps offer me a new URL at some point? Both of the ones they offered are really long.

It seems YouTube would rather do what they want instead of what their users want. I hope a new video service comes along and gives them some heavy opposition. Maybe then they'll be more inclined to cater to their user base.

Good to know about the fix, I was wondering about it for myself for the future. Try contacting youtube maybe to see if you can get it changed.

So this is a temporary URL and when I get to 500 I can actually choose my own? I hate the idea of changing it twice, so I may just wait. I'm at 67 subs and actually gained two in a 3 week absence, so maybe I'll get there soon.

Contacting YouTube is like pulling teeth. Believe me, I have tried many times. All you get with an e-mail is an automated response and if you call, they just direct you to the e-mail. They're too busy making money to care about their users.
