The biggest risk is trying Windows 8, after 7 is eventually unsupported I'm going to be dropping Windows in favour of Linux unless they can wow me with something that looks like a better version of XP :p

I heard a lot of bad things about people who bought a new computer with Windows 8 pre-installed. Some software does not seem to work and they can not seem to get a good grasp on the workings of it. Most of them installed Windows 7 instead or a Linux flavor.

Some good advise if you do like it. See if you know a teacher. I have been able to buy Microsoft software for almost nothing. My girlfriend is a teacher (and needs some software for her work) so through some special program we where able of buying the entire Office package for around $20.

Please post in the correct forum next time. You're asking about OS software. I've moved your thread to the right place for you.

Well when I tried the Win8 trial I couldn't revert it back and I lost my previous Win7 install. Therefore had to reinstall all of Windows 7, so make sure to check what it does to your current OS before doing it :)

I got windows xp... so what can i do? :s

Win8 is not for pc. Well yes it is, but its concept was made for tablets (for any reason microsoft thinks everyone has got a tablet already..I dont -_-).

I can imaging it to be really useful on tablets but on pc..no thanks.
i will try to get used to it since microsoft plans to make updates that could improve pc usage.

Well it may still apply, not sure. When you install it, it will search for programs that cannot be transferred and there should be an option to keep files. However backup any files beforehand if you want to see what it looks like...
