My "Review" is Getting Hate. Halp.

I checked out the video, and I think your concept is great, tbh.
But most people would have no patience for 17 minutes of footage unless they can really relate to it.
For example, I'm very new to YouTube. So I know people wouldn't want to watch me for 20 minutes when I'm just a newbie. So I try to keep videos under 5 minutes as much as possible for now until a build a base of viewers that are actually willing to watch longer videos.

Editing is fine, you'll become more adept to it. You have a great start!

Keep up the content, cut it down in time into 3-4 minute videos to start. Long videos don't work on low-subscriber channels, you need to build up video length as your subscriber base grows. Viewers can be turned off by a long video on an unrecognized channel, since it's more of a time commitment. Also, rapid random content works best in small doses.

Then determine what kind of comedy you are trying to achieve, hone on it it, practice it, refine it. Don't try to be all kinds of random. Focus on one specific kind of random, then branch out from there.

Know who your audience is. Are you targeting gamers? Comedy fans? Review/react fans? Don't try to go for everyone first. Pick an audience, be able to maintain a single audience, and again branch from there.

Then determine what your take on the topic is. How are you approaching this in a unique, unexplored way? Or perhaps, this topic from your point of view. What's your opinion that you think is unexplored? What do you bring to the discussion?

When you know your audience, then you find a way to brand yourself. In a way that doesn't involve the words "random" and "crap".

Honestly, sometimes I'm just using the game as a backdrop FOR the randomness lol. But I do have two other videos where I actually review the game and keep the randomness down. I pretty much (accidentally) created a system where I do a random video with the game as a backdrop, then a review, then back to the first. I might just keep that going.

You are both very right about the length. I've known it was an issue and I've been very stubborn about it. It's not that I want to force long content on people, I'm just WAY too clingy with what I make. I don't wanna cut stuff out. I'm too attached to it lol. This particular video has been "recut" and posted in two much more edible videos though. The best part is, I've cut it so the gameplay and my reactions to it are one video, then the random battle at the end forms its own video. I wanted to do it like that to begin with, but I was stubborn about keeping it all together as one just to have one "episode" of my "show."

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely keep that in mind.

1:26 intro
4:17 - game starts :D

thats the reason people probably disliked it, it seems like a video that would come up in search for a review as that is the title, and they wont realise it's more of a joke.

I love sonic to bits, but I had a hard time following what was going on in that intro, it must be a continuation of some previous series? maybe you could start with a "LAST TIME" so we get an idea of what's going on.
keep the randomness though xD i love that

Aside from the views I get from Google Adwords, my channel doesn't seem to get too many views, even with newer games. I know Youtube is very saturated, but I'm just worried that my inconsistency early on (2 years ago) may have somewhat killed any momentum my channel could have built. Youtube likes to promote channels that get big quickly and mine has been extremely small for years. Do you guys think that might be why I'm not getting to many views? I try to share to facebook and twitter and whatnot, but I'm thinking a total reboot may be required. (watch the new channel get 0 views too lol).

Edit: Ok, this got moved to reviews and feedback, but for the record, I'm not actually asking for anyone to check my channel or give me feedback on it. I'm literally just asking to see if a channel can be perma-dead from being inactive for an earlier period of time.

No lie my channel has been going through the same thing. There a people saying the sub to me but yet it doesn't show on my sub count then I go down a sub as well & video's I upload that would usually be very popular are getting like no views. Seriously YouTube is more hurting me than helping me right now & I'm getting tired of there BS.

It did have a last time! lol. I just stole the season 5 finale's intro from Supernatural to recap all my scripted crap. And I definitely need to emphasize even moreso that the review title is just a joke lol.

I know. It's becoming increasingly difficult to get views. My titles are a bit off, I'll admit, but the rest of my SEO is pretty good. I thought my Star Fox Zero vids would do better as the game JUST came out. That's not the case at all...

EDIT!!!!!: I should also add that the reason I went so random is because if I don't, I will end up A LOT like Jontron. I was actually told in the comments of a Mario Maker video that I was like a drunk Jontron. :( We both like Steve Bruhl and were influenced by him and both do a drunk voice (I do it A LOT). I knew when I first saw his Star Fox Adventures reviews years ago, before I even planned to do Youtube videos, that if I did something like that, I couldn't really be myself because I'd end up looking like a copy of him. That's a big reason I've kicked up the randomness. My next review will actually be a review though (in keeping with my "system") and I'm going to reign it in while trying to be different in general and different from Jontron.
