My first 2000 views - ideas.

Brent Blogs

Blogger, vlogger, comedian, & ranter.
Hey guys,

I have a notebook page full of ideas for upcoming videos, but thought I'd share one and see if any of you had thoughts on how I could make it even better.

By sometime next week, I should organically pass my first 2000 channel views. I understand that in the grand scheme of things, 2000 views is pretty small in the YouTube world. But I started my channel less than six weeks ago with absolutely zero following, so I don't think it's terrible either.

I figured for the handful of people who do consistently watch my videos, I'd do a "thank you" video of sorts. In typical Brent Blogs style, I will of course do a brief rant on "haters" - just for good measure. But I figured I'd also include a rapid-fire slideshow of some of the nice comments I've got on my videos and my blog. (Yes, I am that narcissistic that I enjoy publicizing the positive comments...)

More importantly though, I think it would demonstrate that I do actually read the comments and might encourage my current subscribers to continue commenting in the future.

I'd love to do some kind of contest at the end... something like, "If you can help me get to 20,000 views by ___, I'll shave my head for cancer." Or something like that. (Truth is, shaving my head would probably make for a funny video... especially if I were drunk while doing it) But that's just an idea. I don't know how effective it would be with such a relatively small audience.

Anyway, any tips that any of you might have for this type of video - one that thanks, rants, and hopefully boosts interest - would be greatly appreciated.

i would stay away from contests up to you though just keep pumping content! after 6 months then maby do something special for your subs but wait until your at 2000 daily views or even 1000

Why do you say that? Is it because you feel my audience isn't large enough at this point for a contest to have any real impact?

yeah stay away from contests, but still make a video marking your achievment if you wanted to but perhaps like you said do something cool like shave your head, id watch something like that, but dont give anything away or anything like that, hopefully when you get big enough people can send you stuff in to make video with or somtithng, or you could do that for your next vid, ask people to send you stuff

Just be yourself and do your own thing and make sure your content is in good quality condition also with the audio and make sure you are getting traffic like that say for example on a monthly basis thats pretty good for a new youtuber in my opinion:)

because people will sub you for contest and leave when it's over and gets to be a head ach if some one thinks they should have won kinda thing. I would suggest going with what your doing and focusing on that your gaining subs and you should be probably over 1000 easly in 6 months just keep going for 6 and then than thank your subs for the explosive results of channel growth

I wasn't suggesting doing a contest where I give something away. I was suggesting doing a contest where I make a donation to charity (which I would have done anyway) or shave my head or get pied in the face or something like that. Something that won't cost me anything but could help engage users.

I would say maybe offering to do a live show where you answer questions or better yet, you could do a live rant where your subscribers give you the subject to rant about...which you could do repeats of as of often as you like...which in turn if it gains you subscribers you could then work up to your idea of shaving your head for charity.

just an idea, food for thought. ;)

I love that idea of the "live rant!" That's a great idea. I know you've checked out quite a few of my videos - in fact, I quoted one of your comments in my most recent one. That said, I did in fact do a 2000 view thank you video with an offer to make a donation to a charity of my viewers choice (must comment to vote) should I reach my channel views goal by May 4, 2013. I think that's a noble offering on my part and it seems to be well-received so far.

If and when we hit that goal, I may introduce the idea of a live rant. I think that would be cool and another way of saying thank you.
