Music in videos.

SimplyRodney

I never knew I could change this. What the heck.
I feel like a noob for asking this. But I wanna make sure beforehand.

If I use some music from a band or something in one of my videos and DON'T monetize it, would I still get penalized for it? Or does that only happen when I monetize videos? AND if I want to monetize it, how would I get it to be okay for using the songs in my videos?

It is not alright to use it in your videos even if you did not monetize it. If you want to use songs in your videos , you have to find some Non copyright music , most of the non copyrighted music will also let you Monetize as long you credit in the description!

I recommend - incompetech & machinimasound (google then as not allowed links)

well, I can only really speak from my experience. as a musician, I do a lot of cover songs which I don't monetize. you don't really get penalized (no copyright strikes), but you do get a notice saying that this video has evidence that says there's a copyrighted song in it (paraphrasing), and do you acknowledge this.
for me, I always acknowledge this and nothing bad has happened to me thus far. Essentially the music company is in control and have allowed for my video to stay up as long as I don't monetize. HOWEVER, they can change their mind whenever they want.

I say all this because I can only assume this is what happens every time.

and in order to monetize it, you'd have to buy licenses. Actually, two licenses from what I've read before.

can still get the audio removed! don't play with fire or you will get burned

i would advise finding some free music to use in your videos and also make sure to put credit for it in the description.

It depends. It's up to the artist whether or not to claim your video. They usually will though. When this happens the artist can choose to take the money earned from the video or to give you a copyright strike. Unless the artist states what they will do, you have no idea. :/

There is many music covered under particular licenses that you should look out for

haha il just use SakuraPaws as a example
