More Tags Or Less?

Quick question.
Is it better to have

1. video related tags only
2. video related tags plus video "some what related" tags

DOes the search engine work differently if you have less stronger tags compared to many weaker tags?

thanks!

That's an interesting question. I've seen a lot of examples of videos getting good views with simple tags.

I was wondering the same thing. I uploaded something with a lot of tags about different things and it way below the average that I used to get and then my friend (who I share the channel with) uploads a video without any tags and it get way more that are closer to our average. I don't even know anymore. Lol. I just put a few basic tags now.

Quality over Quantity, there are a limit to the amount of tags you can place anyway.

You know what's cool too... I was messing around with some of the analytic features and there is a cool one...

It shows the words most associated with the posts... If there are some recurrent words in the comment section, tag those to the video too.

I've been wondering this lately too. I've heard everywhere that you should put as many tags as possible in your tags area, but now I'm not so sure. I'm almost thinking it basically splits tag weight between all your tags, so the more you put in the tags area the less heavily weighted each are, which actually hurts your searchability.

It would be nice if they would shed light on this if they did indeed change it since it's the opposite of what they say in the handbook.

Interesting.... I add at least a dozen tags per video, but I have been known to put more. One thing that helps aside from tags os closed caption. I hear it helps put your video higher on the "list".
