Monetizing my TUTORIALS

Galvin Lee

The Unique Guitarist
I have made a UKULELE TUTORIAL of I'm Not The Only One- Sam Smith and not containing the original song, just the lyrics I used to teach. It was okay at first but later on 4 or 5 publishing companies including Universal Music claimed my song and monetized for it.

1. Can I file a dispute using Fair Use against this claim?

I don't think you can cause technically even if it is you singing the song, it is their song. I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure that you can't monetize those videos if you sing in them. Hope this helped man

I would think Universal has the right since they own the lyrics to the song. Even Weird Al gets permission from artists and record companies to record his parody songs for a profit (though I'm not sure if he's required to).

Al is required to because many of his songs are actually satires not parodies which don't fall under fair use
