Monetizing gaming footage with commentary?

I believe there's lots of this kind of questions on this forum, sorry for opening another thread.

I'm just wondering if it's possible for me to monetize game footage with commentary over it without being a partner with a gaming network? Would I risk my account getting closed? Would I get any copyright strikes?

I thought it was possible, and you should be using under fair use in a way. But Youtube's copyright system might take you down anyway. It affects partnered guys too, its just with networks you have more protection from the storm.
But this is coming from a non-gaming commentator. Most of my knowledge comes from film copyrights and stuff :-)

The problem is that YouTube's policy requires you to have permission or own the copyrights before you monetise the footage. So fair use can't really come into play until a dispute hits a court or until a dispute between the copyright holder and content creator arises. You can attempt to use it when they request extra information for monetisation but it's much safer to have permission.
