Monetization: How many subs and watch hours do you have? :)

Just curious about what stage people are at. Monetization requires a channel to have 1000 subs and 4000 hours watch time in the last 365 days. This should be interesting! :)

For my channel, I pretty much have to get 10x more for both stats. I think it's totally achievable, and hope to monetize within the next 2-3 years! YouTube is a 5-10 year game, in my opinion!

97 subs
365 hours

It feels like I'm stuck :) but it's no problem when views/subs are not important, think there is an inflation factor in YouTube, by the time we reach 1k subs monetization might jump to 10k, there are more & more channels becoming big so it only gets harder for tiny channels like ours, that's why it's a good idea to focus on content of high passion so low views/subs dont feel disappointing, also YouTubing experience can help in finding a real job

I have 7000 subs and got 15000 watch hours the last year.
I started in 2008 and got the monetization in 2013 and now have 5.4000.000 view.
:)

That's awesome. I consider your timeframes to be realistic. People seem to think that success comes quickly, but it took you 5 years. Good to see that you are doing well. :)

This had occurred to me, but then it just becomes another problem to be solved when it happens.

I get the feeling that in 5-10 years time YouTube will not be the only dominant creator video site. I expect another huge video site will pop up (from Apple, FB, Amazon etc), and then things become very dynamic with respect to subs and views for monetization.

I'm at 4914 subscribers and 16,100 hours

I've thought about this possibility. It keeps one from being complacent : ) I don't know if they would make that dramatic of a jump in the threshold. They'd lose out on a lot of revenue if they did that.

I'm monetized but I was in the interesting situation where I was monetized during the old rules, 100 subs and then got demonetized when they changed the rule to 1000 subs. That was a bit frustrating, getting demonetized even due I had done nothing wrong and I had followed every single rule. Not because of the money but because it felt like YouTube punished without me doing anything to deserved that punishment. It took about 6-7 months before I reached the new limits and got monetized again.

To my channel getting subs have always been much harder than getting watch time. I reached 4k hours before I reached 200 subs.

I wouldn't be surprise if they changed the rules again. But it's in their interest to motivate people to do YouTube so I don't believe that they would just change the monetized rules to 10k subs but what they might to is to start doing tiers. Like at 1k you get 20% of the money, at 5k you get 35% of the money, at 10k your get 50% of the money, at 100k you get 75% of the money.
