Monetization for sketches/spoofs, etc of popular characters

I'm sure this has been asked over and over, so could someone just direct me to a great thread that goes over monetization options when using well known characters in original sketches etc? Thanks! I'll keep looking in the mean time.

Also, if you can't monetize videos such as these, what are you options for making money with your videos? Maybe have links to other videos on your channel that are all original?
