Microphone making a noise...

Hey guys so I got myself a canon the other day, and I read online that they aren't really meant for recording videos (sound wise), so I got myself a microphone to plug into it when I'm recording videos, it was £35 on eBay, it honestly makes my voice SO clear, but it has a horrible 'SSSSHHHhh' noise in the background?! Do I need to change a setting on something in my camera? Or is it because I got quite a cheap one?! :s Please help! Thank you! :)

It's never fun when you have audio issues. My personal experience tells me that it's usually the quality of the product but of course it could be faulty or a setting may need to be changed. Do you have the specifications, brand etc... of the mic? It's possible that others have had the same issue. It may also be helpful to know your Canon make but as you said, they aren't usually the best for recording videos (least of all audio in my experience).

I got a mic for 170£ that i can use for recording music.
But when i use it to talk it sound horrible, there is a sound in the background!

Thank you, I've just looked it up on youtube and someone there says you've got to change the sound setting the manual on the camera, but also that you need to have a certain mic so you can change a setting on that too! urgh! long!! Thanks for your reply though! :)

Is it possible it is picking sounds from the room? If it is very sensitive it could be picking up a fan or the hum of the computer. Just a thought, hope it helps

That might be my problem, thanks
But i got setting on the volume i record with, when i use to talk i got it placed near a computer but the setting is down to 3 (max 10)
It's a Zoom H2N

You could try buying a mic cover thing on amazon. It blocks the pops of your voice, and reduces some background noise.
