Meditations on Subs and Views

I Love YTtalk
Hello Earthlings, I don't really plan to be posting my videos here very often, but there is one exception that I would really like people to watch. I hit my 4 year-LPing anniversary back in December, and decided to make a video going into what views and subs mean to me, and trying to give some encouragement with those a bit unhappy with their view/sub count. I start off sorta on random topics, but I end it up with one concluding idea. I got some pretty nice feedback for it, and so hopefully you'll all take something from it as well :).

Edit, since this was the wrong section, I'll only suggest you search for it, "Let's Give Advice on Getting Views and Other Youtube Talk"

But to throw my thoughts into text (Warning, lots of reading ahead), I start off speaking about how people will often get discouraged when they are making videos for a bit and don't hit a big break right away. It is important to be patient and let things run their course, and let your fanbase grow with time as people naturally come across you and you learn more about video making. I've gotten to the point myself where I get more views in about 2 days than I got in my first year, but that doesn't make that year pointless, because 1. It was essential for me as a video maker, so I could get a grasp of what it was like making videos for a bit, and 2. I still got a pretty big amount of views.

We tend to sorta look at views as a currency almost, and I disagree with that, and think it's important to remember what views are at the end of the day. They are people, and the simple notion that at least one is appreciating your content should be a great reward. We as people tend to always strive to get better and better, and it's very hard to satisfy us. When I was starting out, the idea of someone with 100 subscribers was Brad Pitt-level famous. When I got 100 subscribers, that idea changed to 500. When I got 500, it turned to 1000, and so on and so on. It's important to remember just how far we come making these videos. Even people starting out with about 20 views a day, just realize that's about an entire school classroom's worth of people appreciating and enjoying your stuff.

The final thing I'd like to get to, is tell a tale of back when I was starting making videos. This guy I talked to and wasn't on the best of terms with, that was also making videos was very bent on growing his channel. Whenever he would hit a milestone, he'd come bragging to me, being "Hey Liquid, I'm getting famous, I got 50 subscribers!" and I'd say to him, "Ah cool, but it's not really about subscribers." He'd come back another time and say "Hey Liquid, I'm getting famous, I got 2000 views!" and I'd say to him "Ah cool, but it's not really about views." And I never really knew how to express my ideas to him, until recently. That is, it's not really about numbers. I say when your starting out, and even as your progress along, just sorta ignore your sub/view counts, because as long as there's one soul thats enjoying your videos and is happy that your making them, that really means a lot. And this one soul I'm talking about isn't someone over the internet, (Though internet viewers are obviously very grateful to have), the soul I'm speaking of is YOU. Above all things, it is important that you yourself enjoy making your videos, and don't be put off by your channel not becoming super famous instantly. Just let time pass its course.

I've recently seen people starting making videos with the sole intent of getting partnered as soon as possible and making money, which I'm all for people supporting themselves, but something that I sorta live with is what a teacher said to me and the class in highschool, in which he told us "I've been teaching 35 years, and I've never worked a day in my life". This sparked in my mind the importance of finding something that I'm passionate about to make my living from. To those who start making videos with the sole intent off of making money from them as soon as possible, my advice is to always make sure that above the money, the main compensation will be the joy of making the videos, and the joy of knowing you're entertaining people.

Well, I've tiraded for far long enough, if anyone has read this far, congratulations, and hopefully you maybe took away something from this :p Good luck with the video making!

That's the way to do it! I know far too many people that are getting fame get to their heads and lose their way in the beginning (as they like give up on making videos since they weren't getting many views themselves >_>).

It took me a while to get where I am but it's all about hard work and promotion. After all that, people will come by and subscribe :3

Thanks for a great read mate!
