Making a script sound natural

AM2PM

Loving YTtalk
We use scripts because it lets us get the video we need done in the shortest amount of time. I have kids, and not a lot of time for the videos, and my brother is lazy. So we write the scripts and send them back and forth and work on them. At first we would memorize them and shoot a bunch of takes until we got them. I recently built a DIY teleprompter and it makes it so much easer to get good takes right away. I'm wondering if you guys have any tips for making a script feel more natural. We try to focus on our scripts so they feel conversational versus scripted. My bro has a hard to time not sounding like he is reading something. We want it to sound like we are just shooting the breeze, while we say exactly what we want and try to be funny too.

Any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

Reading from a script is not that different from acting, so only practise can help you achieving what you are looking for. I read from scripts as well, and I am still having issues after years in trying to keep the flow natural, also because English is not my main language.

I actually noticed that in your videos. Your lines are okay but it does feel quite unnatural as if you guys read it out of a script. I am in no way a professional in this field but I feel like my videos so far came out to sound naturally. However, I do jumpcuts. I read a script, and then say it in the video, cut out the parts or takes that I don't like during the editing. Whenever I try to write a script, I always read it with my mouth moving and kind of whisper a little but make sure I get the mood correctly. Once I find something quite unrealistic or something that makes me go "wait... normal people don't do that in real life" I rewrite that part. Talk to the viewers as if you are talking with your friends in a table rather than a camera. Then once you're done or halfway through, read it again from the top and see if you want something change or you feel something unnatural. The flow of the voice makes a huge impact too, once you sound quite like the ads in tv, it starts to feel unnatural, its handy but in a different field. Like the guy above me stated, it has to do a lot with acting, as of now, act as if you are in a table talking to your friends, eventually it just feeds itself. You'll then figure out how the next line should sound like, when to show the appropriate facial expression, etc. Goodluck man :D

i write as i would talk, sometimes i even use text talk just to i dont read it straight out, its never word for word and i thi k it flows beter
