I've Got It
Hey Everyone! It appears that a lot of people have questions in reference to if/when they can become partnered on their channel. They want to know if <X Network> will partner them and what they can do to get partnered. I am a partner myself, but I don’t work for a network directly. However, “in my real life job”™ - I am trained and required to watch and observe trends. Here are the insights I see when it comes to what Networks want and how to get partnered.
What are the purpose of networks?
It’s best to understand what a network is and does before you can really get behind how to become partnered. Networks are businesses. What occurs is that any Network that is formed, makes its revenue off of Advertisements. They want to have advertisers come to their network so that they can get the Ad Revenue. They can do this by showing off their content producers. For example, Machinima has a lot of big names and can use their view counts to court potential advertisers. Fullscreen has a lot of smaller networks with smaller channels. This results in less views per channel, but larger views over all with so many channels. They want to get Ad Revenue – That’s the basis of what they are looking for.
Why is your channel valuable?
What about your channel makes you unique? Why is your ‘Let’s play’ Gaming channel different from others? While you can’t be totally different or out of the box, you can always add spice that makes your channel pop. For example, My channel is a Religious/Political Vlogging channel that likes to have fun, do shout outs, and sometimes ask for others to go give encouragement. This is pretty diverse and isn’t really all that different from every other vlogger. Except, When I do my videos – I do them in my style. My response videos have me taking a shot of liquor every time I have a counterpoint. My shout outs generally involve me doing something funny or pretending to be mad at the people I want others to subscribe. I generally champion causes such as friends who have lost loved ones, cancer patients, or others. The Losoyo Brand has a feel to it – It’s not boiler plate. That’s lucrative to a network.
Your Audience
When the network goes to look at the base stats of your channel – this is where they will look. It Includes Your Video View Count, CPM, Channel Hits, Subscriber Base, and Subscriber engagement.
Having a high base subscriber count doesn’t matter. If you have 100,000 subscribers and only 20 look at each video, that’s not lucrative to a network. You must gain subscribers and then entice them to watch. You need to have a high and consistent Video View Count and Channel hit. They will also take a look at if your subscribers are commenting, doing vid responses, etc. It’s good to get them involved. You can do so with the content by asking for responses, offering prizes, etc.
Remember: Your subscribers are people. They have loves, hates, joys, etc. They may subscribe because they liked one video you did and will hate all the others. They may only like certain types of vids you do. It’s my observation that any video (regardless of subscribe count) will yield generally only 25% - 50% of your subscriber base. As an example: I have 670+ subscribers. I will receive anywhere from 100-300 views per video.
Consistency
From what I have gathered, Youtube and similar Vlogging sites are one of the least likely to court Advertisers. Why? Consistency. There is no real promise of how consistent our content will be. A youtuber can be posting something every day and then go missing for a year. There is a reason that Blip TV requires a commitment to consistency and schedules. If you show consistency and that you are networked – it’s very appealing.
What have I not mentioned?
Note something here.. What am I not mentioning? Quality. Quality plays a big big deal in how far you will go with your channel, but is not required for beginners. You don’t need an HD camera, green screen, and a 40k custom set. You just need a camera, opinion, and a few good ideas. You just need –You-.
ETC
If I think of more, I will add it here and just do an edit – but these are the things that I have noticed.
Hope this helps!
