Hello guys, I'm not requesting anyone to design things for me but I'm asking for some advice and aid.

I know how to use Photoshop, but not to a decent enough level to design a good house style for my channel. I want to work on 'branding' my Twitter and my YouTube. However, there are a few things holding me back right now;

1. I'm relatively new, my content is completely random... (but that's me I guess) - so what I'm saying is there is not one category I specifically fall under. I plan on doing some skits, vlogs... and gaming videos, so I'm not sure how to lay out the banner.

2. I'd like to have my own logo, I can get creative on paper... I can transfer it to Photoshop, but it's making the logo look nice from there. I'm just the king of gradient overlays - though I'm not a bevel and emboss warrior. Basically the one click features Photoshop gives you... it's a beginner sort of thing.

3. None of my thumbnails as of now are consistent, would it be advised to change these so that they look similar to identify who is uploading? Always something I've been curious of.

Design Ideas;
Logo: Perhaps an animated version of my head, with a weird facial expression but with a gaming headset on - so it covers all the types of things you'd see.
Banner: I'd love to have the animated logo, in shapes with links to social media... have the channel name in the middle, with just a few things to spice it up... I like simple...
Thumbnails aren't really an issue.

If anyone has any advice to help me try and achieve what I'm after with the ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. That could involve redirecting me to a Tutorial video... anything is a big help.

Thanks,

I can't tell you much, but here's what I've got:

1. YouTube no longer allows gif (animated) channel banners. They were just testing it out for a short while. But the might bring it back. So have an idea for a channel banner that doesn't have animation or movement. But still keep you design for a moving banner in case YouTube brings it back.

2. I think it is better if all your thumbnails have consistent branding. Of course this is just my opinion so others might disagree. Even if you have tons of different types of content you could make your thumbnails consistent with the same watermark or logo in the corner or the same border on all of them or the same font if you use text. Your thumbnails don't have to match exactly, but that way there is at least a common theme running through them.

3. My dad designs stuff for a living and from working with him and other experiences. I can tell you that, simpler is better. Try to get your branding as simple as possible that it still looks good. Don't overcomplicate your design with tons of fonts and images. Less is more. Also, YouTube is getting more views on mobile so you need to make sure your thumbnails and channel art can still be visible on a small screen. It is not easy to get a simple logo/channel design that isn't too simple and boring and still recognizable and creative.

I'll stick to simple then!
Thanks for the tips, they helped.
