Horror Versions
So I have an Ariana Grande remix/parody up that got a claim by UMG, blocking it in Germany (man, the Germans can't view anything!) and on some devices. They also put ads on it. I immediately disputed it, which turned off monetization and made it viewable again. Just this morning, UMG released their claim, then a minute later put another claim on it, blocking it worldwide. I've disputed that one of course and they'll most likely reject it and I'll have to appeal. Then most likely DMCA takedown (sounds like a wrestling move) and copyright strike and I'll have to send a counter-notification.

At any rate, I'll update this thread on how it goes. Anyone had anything like this happen or had specific dealings with UMG they'd like to tell about?

From what I've seen UMG don't strike things often, they mainly just put CID claims on videos and don't budge with them. They hire IFPI to do takedowns for some reason, it's random and infuriating. My friend had a video up since 2009 which was very popular and it had copyrighted music. It had been monetized by the rights owner from the start, and then IFPI randomly struck it down. They're inconsistent on their policies, and could easily just block a video worldwide in Content ID but instead hire people to give strikes to random creators when they're already earning revenue off the video.
