Little worried about copyright strikes input please

I've Got It
I'm not fully up to date with the copyrights and I'm a little worried about getting a strike about something so small. I'm using game characters in my background and I've seen countless people with profile backgrounds including some of the big names like northernlion doing this also. Can you guys give me any advice on if this is ok and check out my background and tell me if I run the risk of getting a strike? I wanna add a character from every game I record I think it will look cool.

Adding a game character as an image?
I would use some fan-art in that case and have allowance from the creator to be EXTRA sure nothing will happen.
Extra measures are good sometimes.

You shouldn't have any problems with things in your background.

I def planned on using fan art but.. I don't have enough fans that will hook me up with art.. if anyones interest I'll be sure you get acknowledgement
