Let's Plays Already Done

What are your opinions on doing lets plays that have been heavily done before? My thoughts are that since a lot of youtubers do them, they must be popular, but are they too flooded? And what if you decide to do an unknown game; will it actually get views if no one knows what the game is?

It comes down to your personality - not many people watch these just for the actual game play footage. If you're having fun and can project your personality in the right way then it can work. On the other hand, as you've quite rightly stated, it is one of the more flooded corners of YouTube.

For you to do something like a lets play your video will need to stand out - Do you have amazing graphics? Do you have some sick skillz?

Your basically competing against people who already have a following and therefore people are more likely to click on their video over yours but that's not the end of the world because if you do lets play new games or different games then people should come to watch because there is less competition for you.

Good luck anyway, it's competitive out there :)

As I've just started and my advice isn't very beneficial, I can only give my opinion. I plan to do Let's Plays of games that I really like or want to play, regardless if they've been done once or a million times. I would rather do a Let's Play of a game that I really like and want to play and get 1 person to comment and like it, rather than play a game I don't like and not even get that.

It depends on what you want to do with your channel, why you're doing it, and your end goal :)

That is a good point. The whole reason why I'm doing my current lets play is because, even though I've played and nearly beaten it about 5 years ago, I've always said to myself, "If I ever get into youtube, I want to do this game."

Its probably a balance of both to be fair. Playing interesting games that are new for example will yield you views from people (the few people possibly) who are searching for that game... lest people having played it means that you will be more likely to rank well in search. However less people will be searching.

Like people say its as much about you and your personality as it is about the games, maybe more so. Personally I don't watch Cod type stuff cos it bores the crap out of me.. but I was transfixed by Thomas was Alone, and discovered a new channel because of the thumbnail of the unusual game.
