Let's Chat ("Fake" Youtubers)

FIRST off, if anyone is going to tell me there has been hundreds of discussions on this then that's fine I like to start my own discussion.

So I just watched a video about 'fake' youtubers. Basically the youtuber was trying to say that people are not themselves and try to act more reserved by not cursing and etc (in her words fake) on youtube than in real life to get more sponsorships. Also I've seen it said many times where people say they don't care who likes and doesn't like their videos.

OPINIONS
?

For me personally I feel that someone refraining from cussing on your channel when you do in real life is not fake but professional. Not only that it's also respectful to younger audiences. If one chooses to curse in videos that's on them, but I don't feel that by choosing not to you're "fake". It may have nothing to even do with sponsorships, just take a look a videos prior to making money off youtube. Also the idc who watches my videos comments always pisses me off because I'm just like DUDE you wouldn't have any subs or a channel if no one liked your videos therefore the opinions of people DO in fact matter. I'm sure that many feel very differently which is quite alright and why I wanted to start this discussion because i'd like to gain other perspectives to maybe change my views.

That's pretty interesting that you brought that up, after finishing a recent video I realized I hadn't said a single swear word through the whole thing. When I play alone and record I really wouldn't swear much unless it was something extremely frustrating *cough dark souls*! However, when I play with friends, and we play quite competitive games, for sure I swear a ton lol.

I agree with you that refraining from cussing all over the place on your channel, in the comments and videos, can be seen as you being more "professional". If anything I feel the "fake" Youtubers out there are the ones who completely over do the swearing to get attention. I guess they feel cussing every ten seconds will keep people watching to see what you say next or something? Who knows really haha.

So yeah, I would much rather take people keeping the swearing down (the occasional bad word is fine, sometimes funny even) rather than going off the rails and doing it everytime you open your mouth. I have maybe a slight exception for that when it comes to "characters" like the Angry video game nerd for example. I know when he's out of character he doesn't really do it that much and it's all apart of his act when he does those particular videos, so I think that's ok as long as people are aware that's what they are getting when they put one of their videos on to watch! :)

I don't cuss often (or much at all) on my videos, but that doesn't make me "fake." I don't cuss much at all in real life (if and when I do, I'm usually really, really upset about something). If you hear me cussing, watch out because this little goose is about to explode! (but no, seriously ... I really don't cuss much).

One should always be aware of how they conduct themselves in a public place but most especially, their online presence. I cuss very often but never on my channel and rarely in public.

I agree with you. I don't think it's being fake. I'm a professional and I don't think my clients or audience wants to hear my trucker talk:)

To be honest, cursing gives a very bad impression of people most of the time. So I try my best not to do it.

I was thinking about this the other day, I curse an awful lot IRL.
Like a lot, every second sentence on a crappy day and everything under the sun if someone unpleases me.
I have to make an effort when I have to be professional but with regards to YouTube, I think I'd just feel dishonest holding back.

How is it dishonest? That's the part I'm not comprehending. Like I wouldn't go to work the way I hang out around my house. To me it's kinda the same thing. If someone wants to leave a part of themselves that they don't want people to know it shouldn't be a bad thing. You shouldn't feel dishonest. If you want to curse so be it but you shouldn't feel bad about not cursing.

Do you really think of uploading a video like going to work?
Of course when I was working in a 5 star hotel I had to bite my tongue but we're not talking about a formal setting here.
If I'm speaking in a video I'm trying to open up completely and give an acurate representation of myself.

My coarse vocabulary may not be for everyone, certainly ain't professional but it's me and that's all I'm trying to put across.
No ones gonna fire me from YouTube and (if and when I get to that stage) I'm not interested in sponcership from people that don't like me for me.

I have a bad habit of swearing out of context for the sake of a deadpan joke. But, I'll never say a word around my family or relatives.

The same for Youtube, it's not fake. It's moral.
