Is What I Am Doing Allowed With Affiliate Links?

Hello everyone. I have a small YouTube channel with roughly 3,000 subscribers. I am getting about 1,600 views per day and have not monetized any of my videos....but will in the near future.

Essentially, I am unclear about the use of Affiliate links in my videos.

Because I have been unsure about how to use Affiliate links, what I have done is at the end of some of my videos, I display a certain product and tell my audience I recommend it. Most typically, this is a physical item that I am holding in my hands. If I'm not holding it, I'll show a picture of it on the screen.

I then tell them to go to an article I wrote on my site that's linked in the description to learn more.

In that article, I have Amazon Affiliate links for the item, as well as Amazon Native Ads.

So what I'm asking is, is that allowed? Do I need to click any paid product placement box doing what I am doing? I have read that placing Affiliate links directly in your video is a Grey area and one could possibly get in trouble doing that. So I decided to send people off to my site and have the affiliate links there.

Feedback on this would be much appreciated! I suppose I am just paranoid about this whole thing considering I've spent a good amount of time on my channel and just am now beginning to see some true momentum.....and I don't want to get into trouble for some little thing I wasn't aware of.

Haven't had any issues with affiliate links, as long as they're relevant and not being spammed (eg a link to buy the game you're playing) it seems to be OK. Many big partners, and thousands of music labels have affiliate links in the descriptions of their videos.

Affiliate links are indeed a total grey area. More likely than not you'll be fine, but there's tons of records of people losing channels due to them out there. Apparently if random people report you for it... who the hell knows because Google sure as hell refuses to specify anything (probably on purpose).

Now, you own the website you're linking to (it's your own website after all). So yes, you can have affiliate links on your website and link to that website. That's perfectly fine, as long as that website isn't purely existing to provide affiliate links. It basically has to look like a legit website itself, with the aff. links being secondary to the purpose of education or entertainment or whatever that the website primarily provides.

Amazon links are fine if you are linking back to a product you are reviewing/ showing for a substantial period of the video (you can't just flash up an image for 2 seconds).

That's the answer I got from YouTube when asking the question previously.

Can you link to your source?
