Is the gaming video market oversaturated?

Taking over the world... ...one kid at a time!
Discuss. Is it possible to separate yourself from the pack any more? There are so many gaming channels out there, is it possible for an unknown starting out to get a leg up on the competition? Gaming channels have become so ubiquitous, seems like everyone has one. Has the market reached the saturation point? If not, what are some specific signs that the best is still yet to come?

Gaming is over-saturated, but that's expected. Honestly, it's the easiest way to really start YouTubing IMO. All you need is a decent computer (one made within the last few years) and a mic and you're good to go.

I don't have an issue with it frankly. Most of the time, if I susbscribe to a gaming channel, they're either insanely funny or have something different about themselves that's a lot more unique than other YT Gamers. The person just really needs to find their niche -- if they do the same thing as everyone else, it's not interesting.

I still don't think YouTube has reached it's peak of gamers, especially considering things are becoming a lot more reasonably price wise.

Coming from an outsider perspective (I'm a gamer but I don't have a gamer channel) it seems the "market" is over saturated in Minecraft, COD, and trendy indie horror games. Granted, I'm sure its still hard to be a breakout channel without following this crowd/popular traffic but maybe it would be more likely for you to be seen if you're doing videos for games that are less over saturated. Or maybe its a matter of not simply posting Let's Play content.

Of course, it's possible to separate yourself from the pack, but it takes a lot of creativity. As a gamer myself, I've tried doing series that not many people do for my channel (Like "I suck at video games". I searched it up, and only saw like 1 other person actually doing a series like that, and their channel wasn't even for gaming)
These days I see WAY WAY WAY too many people do Minecraft and COD. It's to the point that when I see one now, it kind of ticks me off. I see a lot of people who make only cod/minecraft vids complain about how little subs they get, and I'm just like GAWAHHH
And I see most gaming channels just stop making videos at one point, because they're not getting the attention they want.
Nah, I don't think it reached the saturation point. There are so many things you can do with gaming, the possibilities are endless. It's just that people think they'll get popular if they do Minecraft/COD/indie horror games, but it's actually the opposite. WAY too many minecraft/COD channels. I would only sub to one if they were original in some way

As a gaming channel who fits into the whole "Minecrafty" niche thing I can say that it's a hard area to break into. Hence why I've started uploading other content instead, since it's easier to make better content with short Indie Games (not horror) and still have a lot of fun in the mean time. I'm actually planning on completely removing the Minecraft aspect of my channel and focus on Indie Game Playthroughs/Reviews, Horror Games (Of course) and some funny higlights etc. SIMPLY because the Minecraft video market is way to hard to get into without the help of already successful channels, which I don't have. :P

So yes, I do agree that the video game marker is over-saturated. BUT there is still a large area of unexplored fields that are yet to be populated. So I don't think the gaming video thing is ever going to have an expiration date, I think it's just going to be about finding a new game to saturate ;)

I gotta agree, the games played are OVERPLAYED. I saw your Flappy Doge video, and I got to say, it was really good lol. Subbed.

There are a lot of gaming channels. No doubt about it. A lot of them however are just people seeing they're favorite YouTubers become successful and talk about their success stories, and they want that too. What most gaming channels quickly realize is that those famous YouTubers never talked about how hard it was. That's why so many have failed. We became a gaming group because there aren't too awfully many of them. And we decided to stay away from Minecraft until we get a bit more popular (if ever lol). Minecraft can be fun to watch if there is uniqueness about it. But otherwise, it gets boring really quickly. COD, all I ever see is the same thing in my opinion. I don't really see why people do cod unless its a how to video..

I feel its completely over-saturated when you look at the games most people want to talk about and see. CoD, Minecraft, etc. The things I would like to see is more indie gaming, lesser known titles, retro gaming, etc. Even some of these categories are starting to over-populate but at least its something different.

I gave up on watching CoD videos except from 2 YouTubers that do how-to stuff. I do however watch a lot of competitive call of duty, so I subscribe to my favorite team's channel and their members, however this is totally not the same as just a CoD gameplay as its much more like watching an actual sport event.

This is exactly why I've started to turn to Indie Gaming as my channels main topic. A lot of people aren't interested in the CoD/Minecraft crap anymore, and are looking for other types of content to entertain themselves. Indie Games are starting to make a big influence on the community, and it's awesome! :D[DOUBLEPOST=1392703535,1392703507][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes. Like 95% of gaming channels upload the same content.
