Is it worth making a gaming channel?

I've been hearing a lot about gaming videos dying on Youtube and that there is a lot of competition. So is it worth making a gaming channel? Is there a chance that my channel is gonna be popular or should I make another type of videos?

That entirely depends what you want to get out of it.
If you're focused strictly on "becoming successful" and getting a bunch of views and subs then there are pros and cons to gaming channels. On the plus side, it's possibly one of the biggest single subjects on YouTube right now getting millions upon millions of views, and there are always new games being released that you can try and use to freshen up your content.
On the negative side, most of those views are being taken by the big, already established channels meaning it is definitely harder to get noticed. But that's true of any subject these days.
Really you should be making content that you have fun making. Don't set up a gaming channel just because it might get popular. Do it because you have fun making gaming videos.

It's worth it if you find it fun and do it out of passion and consider "making it big" as a bonus if it happens. My gaming channel has steadily been growing both in subs and views year by year but it's a slow process, a marathon not a sprint, and my channel is still small.

Because of all the competion the best advice is probably to find a smaller niche or even a niche inside of a niche. At least that's what I had to do for my channel to start growing.

Hey Wadawinz.
Well it's not like the genre is dead, there is a TON of competition in the gaming side of Youtube. I'll tell you what I learned through my experience.
It is possible to make a name for yourself as a streamer, but you MUST ALWAYS BE ON. I don't mean you have to always be streaming but your personality has to always be entertaining. I gained about 60 subscribers through streaming Black Ops 3. I was able to entertain the people I was playing against & when they stopped playing they moved over to my channel to watch me play & have a good time. I ti mentally exhausting but fun.
But I was not getting a lot of views. My time watched was great because many would watch the entire 2+hr streams.

I shortly stopped streaming & started making videos about games & other topics & all of a sudden I was getting many more views on my content. So I have been focusing on making videos ever since & never looked back. My channel is still small but I have only been doing it for a little over a year.
I will do 1 or 2 days a week where I will stream, that way the watch time goes higher & higher.
I am a part of a few Facebook groups for gamers that stream & almost everybody there is now moving towards video content instead of strictly streaming.
I hope that helps.

Gaming niche is huge, so everybody has chances to build big popular channel. It depends on quality of content

If you're having fun, it's always worth it. If quick, easy success is what you're looking for, that is definitely the wrong genre. Not that there's a right one for easy success anyway, with COPPA murdering kids channels.
