I recently made a video and havnt uploaded it to YouTube yet because i want to know if i can use a picture of a celebrity as my thumbnail and still be able to monetize without any problems?? All are welcome to comment im still pretty new at this and i dont want any issues of course, thanks.

I'd imagine it is fine
plenty of big youtubers do it

No offense but that's pretty bad advice. Please have a read of this: http://yttalk.com/threads/giving-advice-on-copyright-topics-a-request-to-the-forum-community.119217/ :)

By definition we only see the ones who "got away with it" so that makes it seem that it is ok. Of course all the videos who got a strike, you don't see because either the video was taken down and / or the channel was taken down.

Copyright is copyright and if the channel holder doesn't own the copyright or have permission from the copyright holder, then he is playing Russian roulette with his channel.

Oh ok so then in reality, this may NOT be a good idea since i dont have any permission??

From personal experience, you should be fine, though I'd edit the picture instead of just using one you found on Google. For example I have a few thumbnails with celebrities but I've edited myself into the picture.

Only you can answer the question "Is it a good idea?" - It's a classic risk/reward decision. Similar to "Is it a good idea to go 10 mph over the speed limit?" You will be in the wrong and you will be hoping you don't get caught. It's a calculated risk. What is the risk of getting caught? Maybe not much. Who knows? But the more you have to lose, then the less inclined you should be to do it :)

My advice would be to try to get an official photograph, one that is in the public domain or one that the star has given a blanket permission for. Try wikipedia for example or the celebrity's official press office. You'll be surprised - sometimes you can get official photos with permission. And in the worst case scenario, if you decide you will have to *cough* use a photo you don't have permission for, then try to fly under the radar as much as possible (don't use a rare exclusive photo for example...) but be aware that officially you are risking getting a strike.

Good luck :)

Ok i think thats a good idea to look into finding one in wiki or the press office just to be safe, i dont want any legal BS to compromise my channel, thanks for the advice and much appreciated!
