IS IT EVEN ALLOWED? I prefer to add music in my videos. I like my videos better when music is in them. I also use iMovie to edit and upload my videos. As you may know iMovie provides theme music, that you can add to your videos. We originally were gonna add a well known pop song, but realized that if we didnt have permission, we could get copyright. And we DIDN'T HAVE permission. My question is can you get copyright for using iMovie theme music? Obviously I DONT OWN that music. So if I monetized my video, could I get my video taken down or copyright, etc. If anyone knows the answer, or has had previous experience, it would mean alot if you could reply. As I do NOT want any legal issues (ie, copyright,...)
Thankyou:)

I've monetized videos using iMovie a couple of times but I hear you need a licence to use it for public use although nothing seems to happen when it is used...so really from experience I can say you should be ok (maybe, don't take my word for it though) :)

u should be fine now, but u ultimately don't want a copyright strike. It'll hurt u in the long run

Should be okay
But to be safe you could check ypout YouTube's free music and see if you can get some there you like without the worry

Yes the tracks are able to be used. Check the software licence for more info.

Okay, thank you:)

The sound and music libraries in iMovie, GarageBand, Logic, etc. are all available to use in your own work. It gets confusing sometimes because yes, the libraries themselves have copyrights attached to them, but the licensing agreement says you can use them as a part of your own productions. What is prohibited is reselling and distributing the standalone sounds and music. (ie. reselling as your own library, taking one of the intro songs and releasing as a single). To quote Apple.....

"iMovie contains sample content including but not limited to graphics, audio clips, video clips and/or
templates (“Sample Content”). This Sample Content is proprietary to Apple and/or its licensors, and is
protected by applicable intellectual property and other laws, including but not limited to copyright.
Except as otherwise provided, all Sample Content included in iMovie may be used on a royalty-free
basis in your own video projects but may not be distributed on a standalone basis. "

Additionally, if for some reason there was a Content ID claim against you by someone who used the same audio clip from iMovie, you would still have the right to use it because they cannot claim these sounds as their own.

hope this makes sense!

Also if you get tired of the available music in iMovie, you may also want to check out royalty free music libraries like Muserk or Incompetech.
