Is It A Good Idea to Ask Developers for Their Games?

Chaz

Just a sk8r gurl (or a gamer dude)
I thought this would be a good question and it also got me thinking. Another thing, when should you start asking for games? Right when you start out or when you have 1000 subs or so? Tell me your answers! :)

Like permission to play the game?

Or getting it for free? lol

I'm not sure you should ever ask for that unless you want to be laughed at. If they want to give it to you for free to play on your channel for them...they'll contact you with a code.

I'd ask small Indie developers for an early look at their game, especially if I wanted to review it etc.

Other then that, I'd probably wait until the time that one of them approaches you. :)

It really depends on what you're asking for. If you mean early access you'd need a lot more than 1000 subs, especially if it's AAA games. AAA developers usually try to keep a tight lid on their stuff as much as they can for as long as they can but this depends on developers. Indie developers are usually meh about but similar situation. I haven't really seen any lower subbed YouTubers get early access to games.
If you're talking free games than you're an idiot if you're going to ask them lol I'm just gonna say it outright, sorry. If developers want, they will contact you. Although at around 1000 subs I'd probably recommend opening a business email and leaving it in your about section because you'll start getting noticed a little more, well that's my plans for when I hit 1000 anyways. Eventually when you get bigger they might even invite you to their studios and things like that. But yeah, don't ask for free games otherwise you'll be like a beggar.

Like everyone else says small indie developers might give you a code or two for review but I wouldn't count on known developers giving you anything, you just need to keep on building. :)

First of all, don't make a let's play of game when you freakin' receive it especially if it's a reviewer's copy. You should have a good reputation and criticism before asking review copies and early access. Do it by reviewing the game and not making a let's play. That's cheating.

I have had no problem receiving early access to games so far, although that has mainly been from smaller indie studios - but that is not a bad thing as it can directly help to bring traffic to you.

It's a win-win for both teams anyway.
