IPHONE 4 for Recording?

Hello guys, I have been a long time viewer but I have just joined.

However I have a question what are the pro's and con's of using the IPHONE 4 for recording. I am aware that the video is 720p.

What will I be recording?

I have set my heart on making a Fitness (GYM) Channel, The reason why is because I used to be overweight at 16 st 2, been going to the gym for 2 and a half years made a lot of improvements on my body and I am currently cutting (Lose weight/reducing body fat) after a succesfull bulk Currently 179lbs. The main reason is because I want to give advice and mistakes that I made during my transformation, I will not be starting this until probably after X-Mas but I am just planning ahead.

I am also currently taking a personal training course where I just passed the first pratical assessment yesterday :D

Target Audience

Gym Beginners

Content

Advice on how to adjust calories depending on goals
Workout Videos
What kind of diets there are (if it fits your macros/IIFYM)

etc

Obviously I will be doing a lot of vlog kind of videos so a good video camera will be good, I know IPHONE 4 is 720p.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

regards ben

I have recorded a lot of videos with my iPhone 4s, they seem fine.

Do you have some sort of stand for it? If you do, you might be able to get away with it for a while, so long as you are in a relatively small room that allows your phone to pick up everything you say.

Could you link me to some of the videos that you recorded with your iphone please?

Get a tripod stand for it.
Get a iPhone audio adapter for it - with an external mic as well.

This is the adapter:
This is the mic I use and works well:

If you are in the UK and not keen on buying the mic adapter from overseas give me a shout as I may just sell mine since I don't use it!

I dont have a stand currently, but I was aware prior that I will need to get a tripod. Regarding the videos, some of them will be in the kitchen, in my bedroom & the gym. Apart from the gym, the two other locations will be relatively quiet for audio.

The iphone - or actually any modern smartphone - is an amazing piece of gear. The improvement you'll see moving from an iphone to, say, a DSLR will be smaller than the improvement you'll see investing in lighting, good editing/color correction software, good audio tools (a microphone/external recorder), a stabilizing tripod for the iphone, etc. Just go to Youtube and type in "iphone film making" or "iphone vs DSLR video" and you'll see what I mean.

From the videos I've seen of them, iPhone cameras seem to be fantastic. They have great audio quality, and the picture is pretty damn impressive. Like many have said, I guess a tripod or stand type of thing would be something you'd need to make your situation work.

Thanks for both getting in touch, can not wait to start.
