iMovie vs. Final Cut Pro

I've Got It
I've been using iMovie for a little while now, and it's way too simple for me.. also I would like new features... how much more complicated is Final Cut Pro? A Youtuber I really like and look up to uses it, and I really like the way her videos turn out. Not that I am trying to imitate her, or anything, I just think I am capable of better editing. Anything I should know about Final Cut Pro?

FCPX tends to be looked down upon by "professional" or "amateur" editors as being too simple. In my experience, it's capable of doing absolutely everything I've needed. The learning curve from iMovie is not too bad :)

iJustine, Lamarr Wilson, and I all use Final Cut Pro X.

Hank Green and WheezyWaiter use Final Cut Pro 7 - which is a tad more complex.

it's a different beast than iMovie. if you're gonna use it, look online on how to do the basics then slowly build up your techniques. you should be able to learn everything online (go Google!! :D)

When I moved from iMovie to FCPX it was like going from a tiny cardboard box to an open field of fresh air. I felt so liberated with all the editing freedom I had. There were so many things I imagined doing in iMovie that were just impossible. Final Cut however let's me do pretty much anything I want to do at this point (obviously it has limitations, but in terms of what I wand to do for our vlogs and sketches, it fits the bill perfectly). I personally LOVE editing in it.

I felt the same way when I made the move. There were things that just couldn't be done with iMovie. There are things that can be a pain, or take forever, but I haven't encountered something you just flat out can't do with FCPX.

Yes exactly. In fact, at this point I think my actual computer is the biggest limitation in terms of ideas I sometimes want to execute. I've pushed Final Cut pretty far with some effects for videos (our "genie" video consisted of up to 6 layers running at once to make the effect) and my computer almost died exporting it because it hardly had enough RAM. But I never would have been able to do something like that with iMovie.
