I'm pretty discouraged... (quality issues.)

CristyTango

I Love YTtalk
I have lots of good ideas. They are popping in my head more and more- and starting out, THAT was my main concern. Not being able to deliver. Now that my brain is beginning to cooperate with me- I've realized another issue. QUALITY. This is an issue that has been bugging me and making me less productive. I have some pretty good ideas, but there's a voice in my head that tells me not to waste a good idea when I can't do it RIGHT and I find it difficult to get my butt up and do something because there is a small part of me that says "Really- what's the point?"

What is a great video concept when it is unwatchable?
I use windows movie maker to edit my videos because I can't afford to buy any super expensive video editing software. FREE is where it's at right now. My camera- it's an Olympus sz-12 not HORRIBLE, but maybe not entirely ideal for making videos. I don't know, I'm pretty much clueless. I don't own a tripod, and I don't have super lighting equipment (just a lamp that stands up that I take the shade off and I also have a desk lamp)

Are there any tips that you can give me to better the quality of my videos with what I have now? Are there any free video editors that have better and more features than WMM? I was told about KDEnlive and was excited about it, but I can't use it because I have Windows 7. Not Linux. I also can't do the whole flash drive thing because I can't find mine.
Sorry if this seemed kind of depressing. There's a video on my channel that I think is pretty good- but it is 7mins long and I screwed up the editing so it's just a lengthy piece of crap. It would be funny- if it were watchable. It's just disappointing. I know it's not the end of the world. lol I just really need a little help.

Well for the editing part you could still download for free some trial version of some good editor. Like Sony Vegas Pro.

Try to find another lamp in your house or the house of your friends. I just found that the lamp is my livingroom makes a super cool lightining.

Before shooting I always try to find the best spots in my house and the best lightning that I can give. I don't own the best camera either.

But if the quality really hold you back from producing, you should definately invest in some kind of equipment. No need to be super duper expensive.

I went and looked through your videos and the quality is just fine. If you want something different, I'd try coming up with ideas for some new videos or something. There are some great trials that are unlimited usage but they restrict your features. ANYTHING is really better than WMM, just depends on what you want. I personally use Adobe Premiere and After Effects, they are without a doubt the BEST tools for video editing. If you want something more like WMM yet better, I'd suggest Sony Vegas Pro 12, or Powerdirector 10 (would be your best bet for cheap).

I think most of us are in the same boat resources wise. As far as creation goes you just have to do it and refine it, call it the artistic process. What i do for a living is create musical concepts and i have to get whats in my head sonically and visually, out, with as little harm done as possible. this can only be done with practice. the better you are at your instruments and the more you write and edit etc etc, the less time you need to spend doing it to achieve results. eventually you get to a stage where you dont lose energy or creative thought in the transition to whats in your head to what the end result product is. It takes time however and its all a learning curve. One of my favourite artists said recently he got his musical and production chops from learning to fail efficiently, so dont worry about your ideas, if you've had one idea that you think is good and you love, you'll have more.

regarding programs, pirate adobe premiere. thats what i did, its very handy for editing and doesnt have as steep a learning curve as other programs (and iv tried them all) learn by doing and eventually whats in your head is whatll be in your hand!

p.s. it also takes a long time to get equipment together but if ur in it for the long haul you'll get there.

sorry for the rant. those are my thoughts anyway, theres a bunch of knowledgeable people on here who have probably already commented by the time i hit reply :p

I hear you! My quality isn't anywhere near where I'd like it to be....I use a simple digital camera to shoot...and Elements to edit! I'm lucky I have an old flood light that I can use at night :p....but don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing anyway :)

I did think about downloading the free trial version, but I feared that most of that time would be spent by me trying to get a hold of how to use it- rather than taking advantage of the time and actually being able to use it. Some trials are just 30 days whether you use it or not, and some are 30 separate sessions spread out. Ya know?

but thanks for letting me know that you don't have "the best camera" It makes me feel better because I've watched some of your videos everytime you post on a thread I'm reading, and your videos are pretty cute and not bad at all. ^_^ I like them. You look like you're having fun and it makes me smile :D[DOUBLEPOST=1367450261,1367450050][/DOUBLEPOST]

Don't worry about ranting. I like rants :) And you did help. Pirating kind of scares me though. The last time I was on a pirating site there were p**n ads ALL OVER IT. hahaha

Yeah they do that :p thats how they get their money, its worth it though. Theres no time like now to learn how to use the programs, i believe theres youtube tutorial videos that give you kinda tutorial projects to do so you learn to use the program and also have fun doing it. :D theres probably tutorials on how to pirate it too. Any time you're not spending learning to use stuff now is time ul have to spend later :)

also i checked out your vids, quality seems fine :D

I'll definately take a look at those when I am able to.

and yeah I definately need more new content, and being this early in the game I should really be creating and uploading more often than I am. :\
I just don't want to half-a** anything.

btw- awesome channel. You had me at "mother doodoo heads."

Yucky... I'm just lucky no one was behind me or I would have had a lot of questions to answer! haha

Yeah... I have a lot of time in my day lately because I've taken a break from Facebook. (some people on there are big poopfaces for lack of a better word...haha) I should probably invest most of my time into learning stuff. If I don't now, I'll be very frustrated later! :p
