I'm only getting 40 views a day......

Promote yourself on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. Use a certain hashtag on twitter and instagram so people can recognize you. Ask your viewers to send you tweets with that hashtag and ask them to retweet you etc. You should also talk about trending topics in your videos so they get more views etc. When you see things trending on twitter, talk about it!
 
Making a huge promise like that tough. I say don't do it if you aren't feeling gratification for it. It might be better if you gather up clips for a week, edit together a "best of video" and release that weekly instead.

KGATV tried to do the daily vlog for a year thing too and he mentioned how he's happier not forcing out videos anymore (he did it half a year) and his viewers haven't given him crap for it.
 
This sums it up.
Not really doing anything wrong. It's your life right? So then just live it.
However if you have a goal for the year (outside youtube) vlog about it. You may eventually get people interested in you because you share an intrest in you

 
That's actually not bad at all :) Getting a large amount of views would require being popular, having a large following (at least like several hundred active/loyal fans), and of course being established :) Think of it as you have 40 more views that you otherwise didn't have and also, you are 40 views closer to your goal :)
