I'm having a problem...

I've Got It
I have an old youtube channel I created back in 2011 but didn't start to actually use the channel until a year ago to upload videos here and there of my pet bird. One video I posted 7 months ago got 23,000 views and it's still getting about a thousand more views every couple of days (I have exactly 155 subscribers). I have 167 videos uploaded in total and they are all of my pet bird so it''s not the type of channel people have a desire to subscribe to... but now I am trying to revamp the channel and change that and will be doing video on others topics I'm very passionate about as well such as health, fitness and minimalist lifestyle.

The analytics says I get about 10,000 views a month for all videos combined... on 90% of the videos I have NO tags at all, oops! If I go and spend several hours and add tags to all of the old videos that do not have any tags... will that increase my views? I want to be sure I'm not wasting my time because doing this will take forever!

I'm also about to change the channel name and I hope that's not a big mistake!? I cannot keep the current channel name though as it doesn't fit and is certainly not the name I want long term... I guess I could rename the channel something like: New Channel Name (Old channel name)... meaning I would put the old channel name into parentheses on a temporary basis? This way people still understand it's the same channel???

Thanks for any advice.

Well I think that would be a mistake. Maybe you should upload a promo of yourself starting fitness videos on your channel. Then upload variety of videos of fitness as well as bird videos. Keep the audience interested enough in you so that they are eager to check out your new content.

When you say that would be a mistake... are you referring to renaming the channel? I'm uncertain what you are referring to when you said that... if you can please elaborate... thanks!

My birds are always in all of my videos because they live on my shoulder... even my "what I eat in a day" videos (which there are a LOT of) and videos I discuss and show minimalist lifestyle have my birds in those videos because my birds are always sitting on my shoulder... so I don't need to make separate videos on my birds as my birds are always incorporated into all of my videos :)

...but I definitely can't keep the same channel name long term... I posted separate thread here which hasn't gotten a response asking whether people will still be able to find my channel if I rename it?

Thanks

Ya I think renaming your channel will actually lose subscribers. I would say stick to the name and make a trailer announcement of ur new fitness content. It should be good enough.

I can't keep the current name long term as it doesn't ft my channel anymore... the current name is very very tied strictly towards a bird channel and my channel will not be only about birds. Why would I lose subs over the name change... because poeple won't be able to find my channel? Is that why? That is very simple to fix as I could simply rename it as NEW CHANNEL NAME (OLD CHANNEL NAME)...so the old channel name will be in parentheses right next to the new name... this would only be temporary.... and then I can delete the old channel name from the parentheses.[DOUBLEPOST=1506876905,1506874173][/DOUBLEPOST]Am I allowed to put my channel name here if I don't leave a link to it?[DOUBLEPOST=1506885987][/DOUBLEPOST]Is it a waste of time or is is worthwhile for me to go and add tags to all of my old videos that have no tags at all?? My channel gets about 10,000 views and I see the majority of those views are coming from that one video I posted 7 months ago which has gotten now almost 24,000 views... that video has tags... most of my other videos don't... should i add the tags now or is it too late? Thanks for any advice.

It's never too late to add tags, and since your views are so much higher than your subscribers, it's pretty likely that the tags you do have are driving the majority of your traffic. I would make adding tags to your other videos a high priority, and if you're set on changing your name, then it's going to happen sooner or later - better to do it now when you have 155 subscribers instead of later when you have a few thousand.

I second the mention of a channel trailer describing the new direction you want to take your channel in. It sounds like you already have some content similar to what you're wanting to create, so it will just be a matter of refining the concept instead of starting over from scratch.

Thanks for your advice and input! I just realized from looking at the analytics the majority of my traffic is coming from one video... it's the one video I have that has gotten nearly 24,000 views and this past month that video alone got 10,000 views (all my other videos barely getting any views at all) asides from one other video that got 2,000 views and my other 160 something videos average far less than 100 views... is it possible for me to edit the thumbnail for those two video that are getting lots of views somehow or is that not possible??? Because then I could add in the thumbnail important info that would let them know my channel name change plans etc and then I could put short sentence in there for the future content...

Tomorrow I am verifying the account so I can start using custom thumbnails and tomorrow I am uploading a new video that will show the new content. I will upload 3 vidoeos a week for the first month and then twice a week...

So the video on my youtube homepage I'll also put in brief trailer to announce what my channel will now be about.
