I'm gonna need a new video editor

just Moto

I Love YTtalk
Making the jump to MacBook pro soon and not sure what editor is going to be best for me. Been using fcp7 since 09 and love having the ability to edit in a timeline. I need to do allot of cutting clips and shuffling around. When I tried fcpX last year I lasted about an hour cause I couldn't edit the way I'm used to.

So my options are install fcp7, install a similar time line editor, or give fcpX another try :/

I can't stress enough how I like to just sit down with a razor and point and do what I gotta do :)

What's recommended peeps?

Does Adobe Premiere have a Mac version? If so you might consider that; or if you are looking for a free solution with a lot of features and power try either Lightworks by Editshare or DaVinci Resolve Lite by BlackMagic Design. Both are produced by Broadcast or Film editing and production hardware solution providers.

Note: if you are monetizing your videos, you may have to buy a commercial license for Lightworks; Resolve has no such restriction that I can see.

I use FCPX and has for years, I also you Adobe after effects here and there for certain effects. I love FCPX tho clean and powerful

Hi again, FreshBiz! I have a good friend who like the original poster, was used to FCP7, then was forced to move to FCPX when she took a multimedia degree program in college. It would seem that for some people the alteration in both interface, workflow and the feature changes between the revisions aren't a good fit if you move from the elder to the newer. When you get a chance, take a look at the two I mentioned if you want to move up a notch just for a lark. I just got my hands on Resolve, and in some ways it's like having some of the features of After Effects built into the main editor.

I just wish I could afford the hardware its big brother is meant to support and had the training to use it properly!

Awesome, yeah I have heard some good things about FCPX but mostly bad when it comes to people who are adjusted to time line editing. Will definately look at those ones you mention. I see no need to have to relearn how to edit when I can just switch programs to what I am used to... unless there is some superior advantages I am not aware of?

I haven't worked with any form of FCP since the days of the Amiga Video Toaster, unfortunately (I just dated myself...lol). Apple removed timeline editing? As I understand it, that is one of the core pieces of a video editor, NLE or not! What have they done here, reduced you to a storyboard only mode?

That was the impression I got when I used it. I asked the question back then and someone told me I had to relearn how I edit WTF?

I use adobe premiere so I have no history with FCP.

/: Is it really good?

I used premiere back in 09 on PC before I switched to FC7 and they were very similar. But not FCPX, I don't know what it is lol

It's a tough one because it goes down to preference. I was on a Windows laptop for years and always used Vegas. last month I got a Macbook and I got FCPX straight away. It was between Premiere Pro and FCPX but I was put off the monthly subscription as I'm already paying monthly for so many other things. I just wanted to pay once and have the programme.

I'll be honest with you, for the first day or so I couldn't get my head around FCPX but I looked at a few online tutorials and after some study time I finally got my head around it and I now love the programme. It's fast, slick and I'm happy with it. This being said I know some people can't stand the programme and are loyal to others. Not everyone will agree with what I just wrote but we aren't all going to agree on everything!
