Ideally, how long should a YouTube trailer be?

Hmm, very good question.... Well, the one I'm planning is around 35 seconds long. Any longer and it'll start to bore the viewer in my opinion :)

Start off with a hook. You want to make the viewer want to watch the trailer til the end. So in your case probably a good joke. Then all the important info, like KGATV said, mixed with examples of what you are talking. Don't just promise something, show them that you're able to deliver. Those examples don't have to be clips. You do comedy, so being funny while putting your facts out there would also be like an example of your work. But if you do pranks or something like that you'd probably need some clips.

I'm not a fan of suggesting a certain length. (YouTube will probably tell us which length worked best in one of their playbooks, everything else is guessing anyway....) Make it as short as you can, while still getting your point across and put the most important info first in case someone doesn't watch til the end.
