ID Claim system is broken - Claimed we had "Smosh related content"

This issue is old and we got it fixed really quick, because it was absolutely ridiculous what they were trying to claim. In one of our lets play series (Super Mario Galaxy to be exact), there was one scene in the game that was a spherical checkered pattern (kinda hard to explain) that you ran around in collecting coins and what not. After releasing the video, we got a notification that Smosh and another company were claiming copyright on it! Now we checked out the other company and found that they were a flooring company (seriously guys??) and of course SMOSH of all people tried to claim it. Now, we aren't big at all (129 subs at the moment) so claiming money on a video that at the time only had 30-40 views was prosperous (enjoy that half penny man). I immediately tweeted to Smosh and demanded what the hell they were trying to pull. Let me reiterate that we had never made any mention of Smosh or its affiliates during the section that they were trying to claim, nor in the whole video in general! The claim was taken down the next day, but it was still irksome.

TLDR; if there is a bull crap claim on your video, do your research! Check out who is making the claim and if it doesn't match up or they are just some random schmo trying to make money off your hard work, contest it! Don't lie down and take it, cause if you are in the right with your content, you need to stand up for it and fight back!

Dude I wouldn't be blaming Smosh. It's YouTubes automatic content ID system. If your video has a segment that sounds the same or looks the same as certain videos on youtube it will be matched for content ID simple as that.

To resolve it, simple dispute the match. Only if for some reason it gets rejected, then would be the time to get in contact with that source of the claim.

Well yeah, I know the ID claim is not perfect. There wasn't any arguement back and forth between us. We disputed the claim and got in contact over twitter so that they would notice faster. The issue was dealt with awhile back and glad it got fixed. Just wanted to share the story and what not.

I saw that, but the thread title definitely didn't seem to have the same implication.

this is ludicrous SMOSH is attacking small channels! just wow! I hope you dispute this and If I was you I would make a video about this. That's crazy!
