Ices Brown debate

Patrick Harris

You see what I did there?
I'm not going to post a link to her channel to promote her, but a simple search on YouTube will help you find her.

The debate going around is that Ices Brown earns close to $32,000 a year doing her videos. There is no denying that (for all the wrong reasons) she is popular and gets a lot of views and comments, but refuse to believe that she makes any money from her channel. The fact is, she uses images of Beyonce, Rihanna and other famous artists in EVERY video she does, followed by copyrighted music that she dances to. How can see be allowed to make money from her videos when she blatantly violating YouTube TOS? I know that Google and YouTube tend to make exceptions for people once they get to a certain level of success, but can Ices Brown really be one of those people? It bothers me to think that all the time, hard work and effort that many of us put into our channel hasn't gotten us the results we've been waiting for yet, but she chick, who is obviously OBESE can put on tight clothes and flop around in front of the camera, and make money from embarrassing herself.

So someone, anyone, please; clear this up for me. Is there ANY way possible that Ices Brown or anyone else for that matter can earn money from a partnership while using copyrighted material?

but she chick, who is obviously OBESE can put on tight clothes and flop around in front of the camera, and make money from embarrassing herself.

Um...that's sort of harsh. And yes there are plenty of examples of people who get paid from there videos even if they use copyrighted material.

There's definitely a difference between laughing with you, and at you - and I think the majority people are laughing at her. But, hey, if she's getting paid then you go girl. She's laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm not trying to be harsh. but essentially thats what it is. Her clothes are always much too small, and she just kind of jiggles around. People are laughing at her, which actually upsets me. Besides that, my original point is I sincerely don't believe she is making money from these videos. How could she be?

I mean it's obvious she's in on the joke. It would be a bit juvenile to assume she believes she's actually a great singer or dancer. It's an act. The reason I said you pointing out the fact that she is obese was harsh because it felt unnecessary to the point you were trying to make. Would it make any difference to you if she skinny and dancing badly.

I don't know if she is making money from her videos but it is a legitimate possibility that she is.

First of all, point taken. I retract my previous statement. But, your other comment got me to thinking... do you really think shes in on the joke? There just seems to something about her that makes me think she truly believes she good, especially her earlier videos. There is even video out there where she auditioned for American Idol once. If Ices Brown is a comedian, she is to be applauded for her work on YouTube. But something tells me she really thinks shes awesome, and that the people who leave her comments trying to tell her otherwise are only "haters"

Even if she does actually think she's good, can't you then just applaud her confidence for putting herself out there despite the hate that she gets because she's not skinny or "beautiful". I think it's an interesting concept.

You can use copyrighted music provided you have a license / permission to do so, which is usually very expensive. It is a little shocking that she has that many views, but whatever she's doing is obviously working.

You mentioned you saw my video "Difference between laughing with you and laughing at you". In the video, I am very clear to point out that I think its great that she puts herself out there like that. I have no personal problems with the girl. Is she my type? No (I think everyone here knows my type), but I don't knock her for not being the usual cookie cutter, size 3 runaway model size. My problem with the situation is that we're being led to believe she makes money from her videos. I'm not envious or jealous by any means, but if she can use music she bought on iTunes and still bring in 32k a year, why can't the rest of us? Thats my whole point. Shes doing something we were told couldn't be done if we hoped to make money from it. So either shes doing it for the fun and the attention and not making a dime, or shes found a way to use whatever she wants and still get paid.

I looked around for where you might have heard this and I only found it on SocialBlade. That was just an estimate of the earning based on view counts for the day, not that she actually made that money. According to http://www.statsheep.com/ices391, she is not a YouTube partner, which means the ad money is going to Google and possibly to the song owner. Google allows the content owner to decide to allow their content to be used and monetize it for the content owner, not the uploader. See http://www.youtube.com/t/contentid

I found this information very useful indeed. Thank you for your efforts.
