i5 4670 or Pentium G3220?

RedFox

YTTalk's Fox
So since I am coming console to pc recently, I have decided to f**k my old Dell out the window (not literally, have other uses for it :p) and build a PC that's some what capable. I'm not looking for a machine that could play Crysis 3 or BF3 at max settings at 2560x1440 or accross 3 monitors.

So I was browsing websites trying to see what to buy, and I decided to go with the G3220, it seems solid for the price, but, I saw the i5 4670, but it's about 2-3times the price of the G3220 however..

Is it worth it to save up and extra €100-150 for the i5 or should a I stick with the G3220?

It's going to be paired with a 7770 and 8GB of 2x Kingston HyperX 1600MHz memory, no SSD but a 500GB Cavier Black WD. ^^

Opinions? Also if you want suggest to me others pluz. ^^

Also I know the difference between the k and non-k, you can overclock, I don't really have plans to overclock, but I might a k version of the 4670 if it's availible.

I'd definately go for the i5.
Ok thanks! ^^

Also forgot to mention, the games I will be playing are mostly Minecraft, some custom Zombies on WaW, BF3, FarCry 3, Left 4 Dead 2 and GMod, probably some others like Arma 2 and Dayz (<-- Which might benifit from the powerful CPU).

I'll save up for the i5. :D

I would go with the i5, but you should check other processors before finalizing.
Well, it's a haswell processor, both use the same socket so I don't need to change the mobo, in some benchmarks I've seen it's slightly out performs the 3570k, which as I have seen, is the most popular among YouTubers. Thanks. ^^

Save up for the i5 and a decent cooler so you can overclock it-then you can unlock its full potential. Make sure to get the k model processor with the unlocked multiplier.

Alright thanks. ^^ I'll get the overclockable one because the difference between the 4670 and 4670k isn't that much. :D

K versions also have hyper threading which can come in handy for multi media production. I always used to recommend K versions to customers who were doing multi media production (photoshop, 3d design, movie production etc...) if they couldn't afford the 2011 socket. Windows does the hyper threading automatically from what I recall. I would recommend the i5 over the pentium for obvious reasons that the G3220 is a pentium lol. The i5 will have 4 cores with 4 way threading which will help with your gaming and video production. i5 is generally all you need for gaming. Even a lower end i5 will do, you could even go 3rd gen. Although on a 7770 you'll still be a little restricted. Just keep in mind, you MAY want to aim for higher cores if you can. Reason I say this is for a little extra future proof as newer games are slowly requiring higher specs now, some are starting to require 64bit OSs and with this in mind it will lead to developers utilising more RAM now, since 32bit couldn't really go higher than 4gb. If you go to an i7 you'll still be stuck with 4 cores but you'll get 8 threads. Not overly a great advantage when gaming but the i7s do help. AMD will get the job done when gaming at a slightly better price, actually does it pretty well, you can get 8 cores 8 threads but you may suffer a little bit on the video production side ironically. This option also requires a new motherboard though so could be more expensive. The downside to raw power is it creates instability that AMD haven't been able to fix yet. If you're on a budget though, go for the i5 either standard or K version and either high end or low version. As long as you an aim for quad core to cater to your gaming and video production, don't forget you're most likely recording as you play to, assuming your not using a capture card, that's more strain on the PC.

If you're going to play those games. Go with i5-4670, just make you sure you have a 1150 socket. 4670K if you're going to OC but it requires a Z87 motherboard.

G3220 is for casual browsing and casual gaming.

K version = Z87 motherboard.

It's a must so your cpu won't be wasted. What's your PSU too? I suggest getting like Seasonic M12II 620w 80+ bronze.
