I purchased a copy of this track, can I use it?

I have a 'matched third party content' message against one of my videos because I have a short excerpt of Steppenwolf Born to be Wild track as a background track. I did go online to purchase a copy of this track so does this give me the right to use it? It also seems that in the last couple of days Youtube have inserted adverts on the this video.

Regards

Most likely no, unless you specifically purchased the rights to use it for distribution/monetizing etc.

You need to get the rights to use the content. Simply buying the song doesn't mean you have the rights to commercially use it.

Hmm! What's the next step? Do you think I should remove it entirely or is the fact that they are inserting adverts showing they will tolerate this?

Regards

A content ID match just means they're putting advertisements in your video so that all the ad money go to the people who own the music. Nothing bad happens, but be careful which songs you use because some will issue a takedown instead, which is a strike instead of an ID match. You also can't get partnered if you have content ID matches, so if you were looking forward to that, then you have to buy the license instead or delete the video and stop using non royalty free music.

Hmmm! I have just had another 'matched third party content' message on a video I have just uploaded, it is a recording of a local church concert in 1987 that was recorded on VHS. We have managed to convert the video and upload it to Youtube. There are no artists, famous singers or choirs in the video just a few hundred amateurs having a good sing song. I never thought anyone had exclusive rights to this kind of music and I can't work out how Youtube picked this up, is it the melody, tune, tone or what? And of course they have added their adverts all over it!

Soundwaves have distinct "fingerprints" that lets them detect it pretty fast.
