I need help with lighting in videos!

I feel like my lighting is weird in videos. If it doesn't look bright it just looks weird and not natural even though I use natural light. Are there any tips that someone can give me? When I use natural light such as windows I sit directly in front of the window. Should I do it from an angle instead? I may buy studio lights but I don't want to if there's a way I can fix my lighting. I feel like my only struggle with videos is lighting. I just can't perfect it. I need help! :(

the way the Pilgrims and Indians did it when they filmed the first thanksgiving; FIRE!

Or you can try to edit the lighting in a video editing program, I have to do this a lot of times because Lola is so black you can't see her features sometimes.

Try setting your white balance, diffusing your light so it's less harsh (investing in a softbox or bouncing it against a wall) or get a cheap 3 point lighting system.
