So I was recording today with my Elgato Capture card. I was doing playthroughs of FarCry4 on XboxOne And decided to make 2 videos today for it and upload one each day for the next 2 days, HOWEVER, after getting the 1st and 2nd videos done and edited, I decided to make one more video, Everything went awesome until my elgato didnt record it! It said it was recording but when I ended the recording, My video wasn't there! The thing with FarCry is I cannot go back a few checkpoints (at least I don't think I can). So now a pretty big chunk of the beginning of the story isn't recorded. Now I have two options here and im curious on what anyone else would do or if they have had similar issues in the past regarding mistakes like this.

I can either
1. Start over and explain in my next video (which may take a couple hours but Im willing to do so)
2. Continue my playthrough with that chunk missing and just explain this in my next video.

What would you guys do in this situation?

Personally I would redo it all so that people get to see it from the start and not have them start part of the way into the game not knowing whats going on, even an explanation wont be as useful as the actual gameplay.

I know of a friend who was playing Chrono Cross when something like this happened. He regrinded and fought the boss again. Respect. :P
Up to you I suppose. 2nd option is obviously if you're lazy.

Depending on how long it would take to go back and redo, that might be for the best. That being said if you have a video to upload before the one that didn't record, you could reach out to your subscribers and ask them if they would be upset that you are missing the next part. Maybe even talk about what happened during that part while playing a montage of the other two videos or something. Heck, you could even reach out on the collaborations forum to see if anyone else has a video of that time in the game you could link to on your video. Good luck working things out.

SAVES SAVES SAVES SAVES SAVES! Something i've learnt from doing let's play's it's saved often and save more than once! Multiple save files for the same playthrough and you'll never miss a part again. :) Personally what i do is save before every video and if anything goes wrong. I can just reload straight from the beginning :)

This happens quite a lot. I would recommend going back and redoing to that part, but explaining about the fail of capture.
Do you still have the audio file of you speaking?
I know GameGrumps were playing poke'mon for about 20 episodes, and one diddn't capture, so they got an aniamtor to draw several pictures to animate to their voice over and it was fantastic. Illustrating their jokes and everything.
However, poke'mon hasn't got a lot of change of scenery and is pretty simple to just draw, so I doubt you could do that with a new game. Just thought I would mention it because even the top of the top get this problem.

Maybe I'm lazy, but I'd just continue, just explain what happened because people will obviously understand or they'll moan, so yeah... :D

My elgato keeps doing this to me aswell, it's so annoying!?

HEY GUYS! so I ultimately decided to just start over. It didn't take too long since I was still pretty far in the beginning. I now double check and test my elgato to make sure its recording properly so hopefully I wont have this problem again seeing as I am pretty far into the game now. But to answer some questions or replies:

When you say save, do you mean save the game? Because like I said, Far Cry has a save at checkpoints system. Meaning I went through at least 5 to 10 checkpoints in that video. I could probably turn that off but I tend to die a lot >.> so ill keep that on lol

Do you still have the audio file of you speaking?.

How I generally go about my videos is record on my elgato with commentary on, meaning the audio file saves with the recording which I then just snip out the useless parts of the video. So no I do not have the audio.

Moved this here for you :)

Thank you! and thank you all for the responses, I will be more careful from now on! :)
