For thumbnails in particular: If you type "transparent INSERT IMAGE NAME" into google image, you get pictures without a background. You can use Canva.com to make good HD thumbnails with combinations of downloaded images. Make sure to be creative with your collage of images. Add text, rotate things, make it pretty.
