i have no intention to monetise my videos anytime soon

Heres my reasoning;
As a creative, all i want is for people to see my work. So when i upload to youtube its ideal, people see it immediately and there is no middle man. Its not like tv or film in the cinema, its instant. its just you and the viewer.
So when your'e starting out adding another level between you and the viewer doesn't help. These Adverts are often unskippable or just annoying. You might argue that i'm missing out on money, but really at low view numbers it doesn't make sense to monetise until I actually have a following. I feel adding this extra layer deters viewers and just doesn't help when starting out. In my opinion it just gives the audience another reason to click away. What do you guys think?

Actually.. YouTube can still put commercials on your video.. They have put them on ours, even when we have not selected to monetize.. They can also put popup little adds on it.. As soon as you upload a video to Youtube you agree to let them do this in exchange for them hosting your video for free.. By selecting to monetize you are just saying hey I worked hard on this and I want a piece of the revenue I may be bringing in.. Also a subscriber and viewer has the option to skip the add if they choose too.

From a revenue standpoint, if the views are to there, revenue will be low to non existent. It's a personal choice at that point.

Non Skippable ads only appear if you select them to.

I just checked three of your videos and there are no adds on them.

Felt quite good watching a video with no adds for once lol. I guess that's why people install add blockers.

YouTube can and does put ads on videos that are not monetized. They just don't put as many as when you monetize. People are used to ads on YouTube. If they want to watch your video they won't mind sitting through 5 seconds before they can hit that skip button or 30 seconds if it's a non skippable ad.

This kind of reaction is what I'm aiming for, without adverts viewers can be pleasantly surprised that the content is instantly accessible. Giving something extra to a viewer is more important to me right now than gaining almost zero in ad revenue.

I appreciate that others don't agree and I certainly don't intend on giving all my work away for free forever. But to start and stand out at the beginning I feel that it's about offering value to the viewers.
