I changed my channel name, and new videos are not getting many views..

So, I have a 100k+ yt channel and I started it off as "DesignCourse".

About 6 months ago, I rebranded the website and I direct all traffic to a new domain called "Coursetro".

My subscribers have known about this for some time, so I decided to change the channel name finally to reflect this.

The very next video I uploaded, I noticed that the view count is down by about 50%. I'm having a hard time believing this is simply because my subscribers don't know the new name..

I'm wondering, if you change your channel name, does that somehow wipe out any notifications people have set up? Or is this really a case of my audience not used to seeing the new name, and thus not clicking?

I'm thinking about making a video to address this and have people set up notifications and such..

Thanks.

I just changed my name on one of my channels though I don't have many subscribers and when I did it it said that YouTube limits the amount of times you can change it. I'm sure you know this, I would think it has to do with the branding. It might just take some time for people to get use to it.

People are most likely not used to the name and when looking for design course they dont click on your new videos cause its not the same name

Yeah, probably the issue.

I need to address this, any ideas? Unfortunately, just uploading a video is only going to capture the attention of those who know I'm "Coursetro" already.

I may do an email mail out + a video + announce on social networks.

Since you can change your YouTube name three times per calendar year have you thought about changing your name to either 'Coursetro DesignCourse', 'Coursetro by DesignCourse' or 'Coursetro (DesignCourse)' or a variation of?

For branding purposes, I'd like to leave behind "DesignCourse" entirely, because I don't just focus on teaching design anymore, but rather backend development as well.

So, I'm sticking with just "Coursetro".

The good thing about this though, my engagement has been suffering for quite awhile already for a number of reasons (not frequent content, focusing on too many different topics, etc..) - But I'm refocused here in 2017 and I'll gain back my traction rather quick, I hope.

Look at your traffic sources and see which one dipped the most. If it's browse features, search, and/or suggestions, chances are that changing your name messed with your metadata (the information YouTube uses to recommend people your videos).

I changed my channel from a beauty channel to a "i'm actually not interested in beauty that much, I like anime and video games and talking about my insecurities channel" and I definitely noticed a drop in subscribers after that. Like mentioned up above, it's probably that a lot of your subscribers weren't used to that name and unsubscribed because they didn't recognize it. But if you build it they will come.
Just keep uploading! But of course you know this.

I would take multiple approaches as most probably wont even watch the video of you changing your name because its under a new name so i would take to social media and email and any other way you connect with your audience to explain it

I personally would change the name to "Coursetro (Formerly DesignCourse)" for a few months so that your subscribers start to correlate the 2 names as one-and-the-same but also realize that DesignCourse is no longer the brand and then, after a few months, drop the (Formerly DesignCourse) part. Just my 2 cents.
